QUESTION 1 [15 Marks]

By using any programming or software application,

(a) Sketch the following surface in a three-dimensional coordinate system and identify the
surface.

i) z   x  3   y  4 
2 2

ii) 3 x 2  5 z 2  225
iii) 12 z 2  36 x 2  49 y 2
(b) Sketch the following polar curves.
i) r  sin 2 (2.4 )  cos(2.4 ) 4

ii) r  cos(6 )3  (sin(1.2 )) 2

Print screen the answer from your device and paste it on your answer sheet. Do not sketch
manually.

QUESTION 2 [15 Marks]

Fify went to a boutique and asks the tailor to design a table cloth in the shape of hypocycloid with
the equation r (t )  cos3 ti  sin 3 tj . They insist to have laces at every edge of the table cloth.
Calculate the length of laces that the tailor has to buy.
QUESTION 3 [15 Marks]

A company uses two types of raw material, I and II for its product. If it uses x units of I and y units of
II, it can produce U units of finished items, where
U  x, y   8 xy  32 x  40 y  4 x 2  6 y 2 .

Each unit of I costs RM10 and each unit of II costs RM4. Each unit of product can be sold for RM40.
How can the company maximize its profits?

QUESTION 4 (15 Marks)

Tilt-slab construction (aka tilt-wall or tilt-up)

In tilt-slab construction (see figure), we have a concrete wall (with doors and windows cut out)
which we need to raise into position. We don't want the wall to crack as we raise it, so we need to
know the center of mass of the wall. Determine the center of mass for the wall if the shape of the
wall is represented by
 
(a) the region R bounded by y  2sin  2 x  , y  0 on the interval 0,  .
 2
(b) the region R bounded by y  x 3 and y  x .
