MARINE RADIO PRE – SURVEY

1. Ensure Emergency power supply Battery is charged fully
2. Check Battery Connectors for connections and cleanness
3. Check that the battery housing is clean, clear of obstructions and adequately
aired.
4. Check all antennas are clear of obstructions and have clean proper
connections.
5. Check Emergency operating instructions clearly visible.
6. Check the float free EPIRB for proper housing and free from obstructions.
7. Check EPIRB lanyard is NOT tied to any part vessel.
8 Confirm that the HYDROSTATIC release and EPIRB Battery are within date.
9. Check location of SART and its ease of availability.
10. Check expiry date for SART Battery.
11. Check GMDSS handheld VHF radios and their spare batteries.
12. Confirm GPS position is input to the DSCs. And AIS.
13. Have copy of Operators Certificates to hand.
14. Check that the GMDSS Radio LOG book is up to date.
15. Keep printouts from recent Navtex and satellite received messages.

These basic checks along with a positive technical survey outcome for the equipment can go a long
way towards a successfully survey.

If any of the above items are out of date you need to arrange service with your onshore
maintenance contractor to bring them into date for a Radio Survey.

Check paperwork and a revision on the GMDSS operation of your radio station.
