Accomplishment Report for Disaster Risk Reduction Management

Introduction:

Presidential Decree no. 1566, “Strengthening the Philippines Disaster Control, Capability and
Establishing the National Program on Community Disaster Preparedness”.

It is our manual to be able to practice and internalize the risk reduction measure to
eventually make a habit of being prepared before, during and after a calamity, be it natural or
human made / induced hazard. As part of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management System,
Mindanao Community School enthusiastically conducted a one whole day training, lecture and drill,
actively participated by two hundred eleven students and facilitated by faculty and staff.

Day 1 (November 27, 2019)

The students were oriented about the DRRMS program. The BFP used varied techniques
and strategies to set the minds of the students as a start of a one day realization of the DRRMS. The
BFP also utilized relevant instructional materials, to make learning more exciting and lasting. Some
terminologies were successfully explained such as Bandaging and Carries on First Aid to unlock the
difficulties of the students and to fully understand the lectures. Maximum participation of the
students was achieved. Everyone was given a chance to perform different carries and folds on
bandaging.

On afternoon Activity “Laging Handa” is the best motto. It is very essential to be always
prepared before, during and after a disaster. This is the highlight of the DRRMS program. Making
students aware of the exact things that they should do consider and expect in facing a disaster. As
part of an effective learning, students were given a task to demonstrate on how they will react in a
certain situation (earthquake, grass fire). Their demonstration were studied, evaluated and
appreciated. It was emphasized to the students that natural disasters are natural phenomenon. The
best way to manage disaster impacts is to be aware on how it occurs and its accompanying
consequences and places for actions to be taken before, during and after a phenomenon.

The students were able to differentiate natural and man- made incidents and they were
given a chance to give examples. They enumerated guidelines and ways to manage risk reduction.
BFP/Teachers pointed out the Do’s and Don’ts in case of a disaster occurrence. To strengthen
disaster preparedness for effective response at all levels. Earthquake and fire drill were facilitated by
the teachers and BFP. The plan was introduced to the students. The dos and don’ts were reminded
to everyone. The drill was participated by two hundred eleven students and thirteen teachers.

The drill includes arrangement to facilitate control of people during disaster, such as having
enough exits. Clearly marking routes to be taken in evacuating the building and locating
organizational personnel where they can take command and give calm, decisive instruction at places
where groups are likely to converge. After the drill the Bureau of Fire and protection give some
activities to the students like fire fighting.

Learning by doing produced lasting and meaningful learning. Students seemed to be

prepared, alert and aware during the activities. First aid was also taught to the students.

The activities, drill and the whole DRRMS was evaluated right after and it turned out to be very
successfully.

TO God be the glory!
