NATURAL GAS David Poulin

NATURAL GAS
• Emissions contributing to global
warming from burning natural
gas are lower, in comparison to
coal and oil (Union of
Concerned Scientists, 2023)
• Coal burns approximately 160
per million British thermal Units
(MMBTu) and natural gas burns
117 MMBtu (U.S. Energy
Information Administration, 2022)
• The graph illustrates the CO2
emissions by source and sector in
the United states (Environmental
and Energy Study Institute, 2021)
NATURAL GAS
• For transportation, burning natural gas produces lower levels of Nitrogen
Oxides (NOx), compared to gasoline and diesel powered vehicles (European
Union’s Horizon, 2018)
• Qualified retrofitters are able to convert many vehicles, depending on their
make, model and application, to operate via natural gas (US Department of
Energy, n.d.)
• The comparison between safest and cleanest energy sources is illustrated
below (Ritchie & Roser, 2022)
