Act. #1
Have you experienced being reconciled with some or seeking for forgiveness?
Write your experience on the space below.

My Experience of reconciliation/ Seeking for forgiveness

It is so hard actually, you must to take step by step of prayers before you get the baptism or the second chance of
life of being forgiven by god,
We are sinners, there is no man can get sin except the son of god which is Jesus Christ, but there is forgiveness of
all sin if you know how to repentance of your sin, on my experience of seeking of forgiveness, I always go to church
everyday, for my 25 days of doctrine and 40 days of trial before I get the baptism, god make my heart alive again,
they make me as his instruments for the seek of my family and for my future, I always put on my mind that no
matter what happens, I’ll stay to my master or my lord, because there is no one like him, like him who change on
me like him on how he loves me even I’m a sinner, I was silence now on my faith to god, because of the society of
full of judgement, my faith to him is like Ananias, I will put the right on my heart with go with flaw with the
society, prays him on silence and worship him on silence, god knows who I am only me and him who know who I am
now not people.

Unlocking of Difficulties
Eucharist- an act of praise and thanksgiving carried out by the Church in which Christ offers to

Contrite – repentant, feeling sorry or regretful for he or she has

done Resentment – bitterness, anger
Squandered – wasted, misspent
Dissipation- separation or dispersion
Let us have first our “pagbabalik-tanaw”

What is sin?
The Church define sin as:

∙ breaking God’s law

∙ breaking our love relationship with Him and others;

∙ going against one’s conscience(CFC, 1801). It is an act that shows a refusal

to love God, a rejection of God and a rejection of our true selves.

What is venial sin?

∙ Venial sin is derived from the Latin word “venia” which means pardon or
forgiveness. This kind of sin is an excusable sin but must not be taken
lightly because it is still an act which offends God and others.

How did Jesus Christ save us from sins?

∙ Sin brings death but because God the Father loves us so much He sent His
Son Jesus to redeem us and give us life. Jesus proclaimed, “ I came that
they may have life, and have it abundantly ”cf. Jn. 10:10). The New Adam,
Jesus who accepted God’s will and through the redeeming love of Christ
showed and shared in the cross, we are saved from the death of sin.

When do we say that a sin committed is mortal?

∙ when its nature, intention, and circumstances involve grave matter, full
knowledge, and full consent of the will. The act is considered grave if it
violates the very fundamental value and dignity of God’s creation such as
sin against life. It becomes more grave if then sin has been committed
with fill knowledge and consent engaging with a profound use of freedom.

Scripture Reading: From the Gospel accdg.to St. Luke 15:11-

24 The Parable of the Lost Son

11
Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said
to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property
between them.
13
“Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant
country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent
everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be
in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent
him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that
the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants
have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back
to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against
you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your
hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with
compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed
him.
21
“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I
am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on
him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf
and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and
is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
25
“Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he
heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him
what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has
killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28
“The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out
and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve
been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me
even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of
yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill
the fattened calf for him!’
31
“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is
yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was
dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

Questions for Reflection:

1. What request did the son ask from his father?

Son request to his father to get his share of the estate

2. What happened to the son after he went off to the distant country?

He spent his wealth for nothing that he think that, that is life

3. Why did the son go back to his father?

Son back to his father because, after he spent all the wealth for nothing, he was
live with pigs and what the pig eat is also what he eat,if he had just stayed with
his father, there would have been no problem and they senses to his mind that
his life without his father is was far from his life with his father,

4. How did the Father receive his lost son? What character trait was
manifested by the father?

Father was forgive his son againts his sin, he accept him and kiss him and celebrate
him for his return.

5. What reward did the son get for coming back to his father?

Upon his return, his father treats the young man with a generosity far more than he
has a right to expect. He is given the best robe, a ring for his finger, and sandals
for his feet.

We are all subject to human frailty. Our human weaknesses lead us to sin
which offends God and ruptures our communion with Him. At the same time, sin
also damages our communion with the Church (Cf. CCC, 1440). However, God is
rich in mercy always ready to forgive us so that we may once again become His
worthy sons and daughter.

How do we seek forgiveness for our sins?

In the Church we can seek forgiveness from the sacraments, particularly from the
sacrament of reconciliation. By going to confession and by asking for forgiveness, we are
graced by God to come back to Him and be reunited with His love. When we go to
confession, we experience an “encounter with the Lord’s mercy which spurs us on to do
our best” (EG,44)

When was your last confession?

Confession to a priest is an essential part of the sacrament of penance

(CCC 1456). Regular confession forms our conscience, helps us fight evil
tendencies, and allowed Christ to heal us. When we go to confession, we also
receive the gift of the Father’s mercy and also become merciful to our neighbors
(cf. CCC 1458). However, there are times when fear, shame, guilt prevents us
from going to confession. Let us remember that the Holy Scripture tells us, “if we
say, we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and truth is not in us. If we confess
our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all
wickedness.”
God loves us so much and desires that we live in communion with Him.
Sin separates us from God but as the Psalms proclaim, “Compassionate and
gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in love” (ps 145:8). We put our
trust in the Lord and believe that our sins will be forgiven. Jesus instituted the
Sacrament of
Reconciliation (Mt. 16: 18-19) and we are all
called to partake in this Sacrament of Forgiveness
and Penance.
THE DIVINE AUTHORITY TO FORGIVE SINS
Only God can forgive sins. Jesus Christ said that
He and the Father are one (cf. Jn. 10:3 30) Hence
all sins that Jesus are forgiven are forgiven by the
Father. Jesus Christ entrusted to His apostles the
ministry of reconciliation (CCC, 1442) In the Holy
Gospel according to Matthew (16: 18-19), Jesus
told Peter (the first Pope) I will give you the keys
of the kingdom of heaven: Whatever you
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you unbind on earth shall
be unbound in heaven.” It is from Jesus Christ that Peter, and the Holy Catholic
Church received the divine authority to forgive sins. Through the Sacrament of
reconciliation, the Church which is the body of Christ, exercises the power to
absolve us from our sins.
Effects of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
For all who receive the sacrament with a contrite heart and authentic
religious disposition, the basic effect is reconciliation with God and the Christian
community, the Church. Those who by grave sin have withdrawn from the
communion of love with God are called back… to the life they have lost. Others,
through frequent and careful celebration of the sacrament, find a useful remedy
for venial sins, drawing strength to overcome their daily weaknesses and gain the
full freedom of the children of God. By thus seriously striving to perfect the grace
of their baptism and become more closely conformed to Christ and to follow more
attentively the voice of the Spirit, they are move fervent service of God and
neighbor. Different names bring out particular dimensions of the Sacrament.
“Confession” stresses the importance of acknowledging our sins while asking for
God’s forgiving grace. “Sacrament of Penance” emphasizes rather the whole
process of conversion, including contribution, repentance and satisfaction, which
the penitent enters into, both personally and as a member of the Church
community. “Sacrament of Reconciliation” brings out the inner relationship
between being reconciled with God and being reconciled with other neighbor.
Three Essential Dimensions of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
• God who in His infinite mercy grants forgiveness and reconciles us to Himself
and to one another in this sacrament celebrated in the context of His word in
Scripture;
• the Church, the Christian community, as continuing Christ’s ministry of
forgives and reconciliation; and
• continued personal conversion and heartfelt repentance for sins against God
and neighbor, supported by the charity, good example and prayers of the whole
community.

Have you experienced fear, guilt, shame, or pride which prevented

you from going to confession?

How did you overcome these negative emotions?

Actually yes it is normal to people who was serve god, to experience that kind of
trials in life, for me on how I prevented that kind of emotion is first I will look up
with cry on my eyes and the private room, and say all to him of what inside of my
heart and think that this is right ? or wrong ? because if you know god you know
also what will you first to do.

Reflect and Share

1. According to the CFC, what are the effects of the Sacraments of Reconciliation?

It brings out the inner relationship between being reconciled

with God and being reconciled with other neighbor.

2. Why do you think it is important to acknowledge our sins while asking

God for forgiveness?

We must seek God's forgiveness of our sins because only then

will we find the healing we need to repair the damage to heart
and soul that our sin has caused. In this Sacrament we must
confess our sin and receive absolution.
2. How do you think is reconciliation with God related to reconciliation with our
neighbor?

Reconciliation is by the will of God and his forgiveness of the sins

of all the people who would ever believe. Reconciliation happens
by the obedience of faith.
To reconcile with someone takes a lot of courage and humility. Whether we
are the one at fault or the one who was hurt, reconciling with someone is not easy.
Even if this may be the case, it is always worth restoring the relationship that has
brought out the best in us. It doesn’t matter who takes the initiative at reconciling;
the important thing is the process is begun. Yet, oftentimes the responsibility to
make the initial move falls naturally on the person who has sinned. If we are
serious about restoring a relationship, we must begin with admitting our own
mistakes. It may take time for us to finally acknowledge our sinfulness but there is
no reason to prolong it. But it is not enough to acknowledge our sinfulness. We
also have to accept responsibility for our sins and start to ask for forgiveness.
Acknowledging one’s sins, accepting responsibility for them, and asking for
forgiveness will truly lead to reconciliation. When we humbly admit our mistakes, it
lessens or even washes away the other person’s anger.
The reality of human reconciliation is not far from the experience of
reconciling with God. Whenever we commit a sin, we break or endanger our loving
relationship with God and with others as well. Nevertheless, the relationship can be
restored only if we decide to express our genuine sorrow for our sins and ask God
for His forgiveness. This reality is depicted dramatically in the Parable of the Lost
Son. The parable illustrates how the conflict started when the son left his father’s
house and began to live in disillusion and profound disgrace. But the process of
conversion started when the son, in ‘coming to his senses’ with sorrow for his sins
and determination, confessed his sin to his father. Finally, his father
compassionately welcomed him an even reconciled him with his older brother. The
prodigal son is restored to his position in the family signified by wearing the robe,
ring, and sandals and by occupying a place in the table fellowship in a joyous
feast.
In this story, one could see how the son saw the difference of being away
from his father, from being far from him. The relationship he has with his father
became the driving force for him to realize the joy of being with his father. His
longing is affirmed when he saw
the joy which his father had over his return. In the story, the father despite his son’s
mistakes did not harbor any grudge against him and instead granted him
forgiveness and restored him to his former dignity. We are all subject to human
frailty. Our human weaknesses lead us to sin which offends God and ruptures our
communion with him. At the same time, sin also damages our communion with the
Church. However, God is rich in mercy, always ready to forgive us so that we may
once again become his worthy sons and daughters. So when we sin, we have to
approach the Sacrament of Penance to be reconciled with the Body of Christ, the
Church and thus to obtain from God and forgiveness of our sins.
