UBG Welcomes the New Top Administration in Wau

The University of Bahr el Ghazal in Western Bahr el Ghazal State Wau on Monday
welcomes the top new administration at the University comprising of the Vice
Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the Deputy Vice Chancellor
for administration and Finance.

Speaking on behalf of the old administration regime, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs Prof.Dr. Peter Atem Deng acknowledges and welcomes the new
top administration to the University.

He mentions that, it is very important to accept changes because it will allow them to
evaluate themselves on their achievements and failures.

Dr. Atem Deng urges the workers of the University to cooperate and stand firms with
the new administration as he believes that the new administration will continue from
where they had stopped and improve in areas which was a challenge to them.

On the other hand the teaching staff’s representative assures their readiness to
cooperate with the new administration in all aspects for the betterment of the
University.

Meanwhile the new Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Areneo Barnardo Ochi acknowledges and
appreciates the government of South Sudan for the trust bestowed upon them to lead
the University of Bahr el Ghazal.

He also expresses his gratitude to the University and the entire people of Wau for their
warm reception.

Mayor calls on health authorities to avoid keeping dead bodies at the


Mortuary for long period

The Town mayor of Wau Municipal Council in Western Bahr el Ghazal state, is calling on
the health authorities from both the Ministry of Health and Wau Teaching Hospital to
avoid keeping dead bodies at Mortuary for a long period of time.

This comes after a delegation led by the town mayor, Paulino Said Uku, pays a surprise
visit to the Mortuary within Wau Teaching Hospital and found seven dead bodies which
were decaying plus another two new dead body were at the mortuary.

According to the mayor of Wau town, the seven bodies had been staying at the
Mortuary for more than a month and as a result the Municipal Council normally try their
to buried them, but the other two are yet to be taken for post-mortem.

Paulino Said Uku says that although it is the mandate of the municipality to ensure a
conducive environment, still there are administrative challenges which hinder their
work.

He ask the administration of the hospital and the ministry of health not to keep the
bodies at hospital for so long when the municipality is supposed to receive the report of
dead bodies without families so that they can be taken for burial.

However Voice of Hope radio is yet to reach to the hospital administration and the
ministry of health for their comments.

The official spoke to the media on Monday at Wau Teaching Hospital.

Balanda Community Presents Customary Law to Ministry of Local


Government.

The Balanda Community of Wau County in Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Tuesday
presents their customary law to the State Ministry of Local Government and Law
Enforcement.

Chairperson of Balanda Community Arkangelo Njovo Tartizio expresses their happiness


for presenting the long awaiting customary law which started in 2010 to the Ministry of
local Government and Law Enforcement.

He mentions that, the Customary Law will guide all the Balanda community in different
aspects.

Paramount Chief of Wau County Emilio Ulaw Bagari acknowledges the commitment of
Balanda community citing that their customary law is a great millstone in the story of
Balanda people.

Commissioner of Wau County George Wijok Tunga points out that, the law will bring
Balanda community together and will guide them in solving community issues.

The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Robert Cornelio assures
Balanda community to present their customary law to the council of ministers next
week.

“After the law is passed by the council of ministers, it will be taken to Parliament for
final deliberation,” the minister adds.

The Customary Law of Balanda Community contains 8 Chapters and 43 Sections, which
provide rules to guide on customary matters related to marriage, inheritance,
endowment and compensation and amongst others.

The speakers made these remark to Voice of Hope Radio on Tuesday at the State
Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement in Wau.
