According to research, there

are nearly 3.96 billion social media users worldwide! Social media experiences are powerful across a
wide range of communities and industries. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram,
Twitter, etc. allow people to connect across distances. Because of this, social media is touted as a
double-edged sword! So, something so powerful and influential must have its advantage and
disadvantage. (iSchoolConnect & iSchoolConnect, 2023)

In recent years, social media has grown to be one of the internet's most well-liked features.
Businesses, organizations, e-commerce sites, as well as individual professionals, establish social
media accounts and services to people from all over the world. Social networking additionally permits
money transactions. As a result, the majority of e-commerce websites, companies, and professionals
make use of these advantages and finish their financial transactions in return for the products or
services they offer.

The advantages of social media are numerous and varied. One of the advantages of social media is
that it is useful for educational purposes. There are many ways to use social media as a teaching tool.
People can educate themselves on various topics through social media from the comfort of their
homes. The most obvious examples are live sessions with industry experts and speakers on their
Facebook and Instagram profiles. They instruct students on subjects not covered in their courses or
textbooks. Also, by utilizing social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter Another way
to learn is by joining social media groups, which offer free knowledge exchange on a range of topics.
We can easily get information and news through social media. The use of social media can raise
awareness about any social issue.

On the other hand, social media helps to gain wider knowledge which is also the advantage of social
media. (Gola, M. (2020). Social media helps students do better academically and become more
knowledgeable through data and information gathering. Whenever students are given assignments,
they go through various online platforms to collect information to make their assignments. Practically,
the internet can essentially do everything. Anything you need to know can be found online. It can
serve as an educational resource for students. Students will also benefit from this as they work
towards learning.

Furthermore, the advantage of social media is that it helps to resolve communication barriers. In the
past, people communicated information through writing, which was not only time-consuming but also
slow. Much of the favor is given to relationships these days, mainly through physical and online
newsletters. No matter how far away you are, as long as you have a mobile phone, you can talk to the
person you want to meet and chat with through social media. Thanks to this, wanderers far away can
also give their parents peace of mind in other places. Social media helps people keep in touch with
those around them. And great links to people and things from all over the world. Importantly, all
barriers in communication and relationships are broken down.

In addition, through social media, we can not only get timely information but also get the latest news.
Social media is one of the best places on the internet to receive the latest information and news. For
instant to get the most recent information from around the globe, simply check social media networks.
You can get a accurate picture of what's happening around the world through social media and other
means of communication. One could argue that social media played a direct role in the globalization
of society. That's why social media plays such a significant role in today's society because of this.

Social media is a great tool for marketing and promoting your brand. Companies of all sizes use social
media to promote their brand, market themselves, and market effectively. Social media has evolved
into a fantastic advertising medium that helps businesses know and understand the needs of their
target audience. Businesses of all sizes can benefit from it. Not only that, but anyone can also expand
their audience and develop their own brand through social media nowadays. If you want people to
follow you on social media, you can provide valuable information or content to your audience. This
helps increase the visibility of your company or product, which in turn increases sales.

Overall, social media is a very popular and useful tool. Notably, the user base has grown significantly.
This is also directly proportional to the demand for highly skilled professionals. Especially those with
expertise in branding, who can do branding by creating content such as advertisements, promotional
posts, brand pages, and more. Experts use creative content; images and video, to create engagement.
Especially if the target audience is large; moreover, leads can be generated and monetized in return.
It's worth noting that one of the most popular aspects of social media is influencers. In fact, brands
have been paying attention. Especially for popular influencers with huge networks of followers. Thus,
popular influencers make a fortune by fulfilling a need and monetizing it.

Although social media has many advantages, it also has some disadvantages and is also considered
one of the most harmful factors in society. This can also lead to harmful results if social media usage
is not monitored. What is so harmful about social media is that it basically violates our privacy in
unprecedented ways. Oversharing on social media makes Internet users a target for hackers. It can
also lead to cyberbullying, which can have a major impact on anyone. So, sharing on social media can
be both good and bad. Add social media, which is common among young people. This addiction
affects students' academic performance as they waste time on social media instead of studying. Social
media can also create rifts in communities. Fake news spreads wherever it is needed, poisoning the
hearts and minds of peaceful citizens. In short, social media certainly has both advantages and
disadvantages. However, it's ultimately up to users how they take advantage of it. Teenagers, in
particular, must balance academic performance, physical activity, and social media. Excessive use of
anything is harmful, and the same thing applies to social media. Therefore, we must strike a proper
balance between the two.

The downside of social media is the privacy issue. When listing the pros and cons of social media, the
issue of privacy is arguably one of the most notable ones. Some of the downsides of heavy social
media use include posting inappropriate information, sharing too much of your everyday life with a
large audience, or unknowingly sharing your online location. This can also be a dangerous and unsafe
one. Because one's own position may be positioned by someone with a heart. So put yourself in an
unsafe situation. It's also important to note that security agencies around the world have access to
everything you post on social media platforms. As a result, your privacy is almost always
compromised.

In addition, by promoting your brand, you can reach the board audience faster, but there are also
disadvantages of negative brand feedback and not being recognized by the public. People often post
what they like on social media. However, they also use it to have a bad experience. This is one of the
disadvantages of social media for entrepreneurs to build their image. So, if you have a business and
someone has a negative experience with your brand, social media allows them to share that same
experience with others. This can significantly reduce conversion rates, especially if feedback is shared
between different platforms. Negative feedback can also affect comments on your page. People often
check reviews and read negative experiences when they are familiar with your brand and what it
offers.

Beyond that, because of the power of social media, this has also led to the spread of fake news by
people with intentions. Fake news can have disastrous effects on knowledge of different topics. It may
even trigger rebellious behaviour, and because it is news, it will spread faster than ordinary news.
Some will share these posts by individuals often creating fake social media posts, spreading fake news
in groups and other platforms. The result is a vigorous spread of fake news. It is difficult for people to
distinguish its authenticity. So almost anyone can create fake news about trending topics and post it on
different social media platforms without verification. resulting in faster dissemination.

It varies from person to person, and the wide-ranging effects of social media can also cause some
teenagers or adults to fall into depression because of their long-term addiction to social media.
Spending too much time on social media, such as Facebook or Instagram, is actually a potential side
effect. Why do you say that? In today's society, most young people will learn from famous people on
the Internet. Also because of this, worship leads to blindness, they will copy them and imitate what
they have done or find a way to make themselves as public as they are. They pay too much attention
to their own life and image, which can lead to depression! Because the research shows that most
people will care about the likeness of their imitation after imitation, if not. They then fall into a state
of self-doubt. For a long time, it will lead to confusion and confusion as to whether I really learned to
live or dress like this.

There is cyberbullying on social media too. Cyberbullying is one of the worst aspects of regular social
media use. Bullying that occurs on social media platforms is cyberbullying. It uses fake social media
accounts to psychologically disrupt or tease victims. Therefore, it is very likely to lead to suicide or
depression of the victim. Fake social media accounts are often untraceable. Bullying occurs by
sending derogatory material such as photos and videos and inappropriate text messages. It's also one
of the worst things about social media.

Also, addiction is one of the most common downsides of social media platforms. Social media
addiction has skyrocketed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially with the extra leisure
time many people have. Excessive use of social media can create a psychological addiction to social
media. Social media addiction has many serious negative effects on adolescents across the globe.
People who use social media excessively are often isolated from society and the natural world. This
can lead to a severe disconnect between the individual and what is happening in real life.

Last but not least, the disadvantage of social media is that it reduces the closeness between families.
Texting, Facebook, Twitter, etc. have brought us farther from our families than we actually think.
When the family spends family time together and watches movies, it can be said that most of the
people these days are playing with their phones instead of watching movies with their parents.
Because of this, a small amount of communication makes the relationship between family members
similar to that of strangers.

In conclusion, it needs to be pointed out that while social media has advantages, its disadvantages
should also be noted and avoided. Especially when deciding to use social media, people should take
advantage of its tools and not be controlled by them. Research shows how social media affects the
people who use it regularly. In fact, the findings reveal a core reason. Social media, if used
incorrectly, can lead to distress, anxiety, and insecurity; in addition, there are factors that affect mental
health; and ultimately lead users into depression. According to research, many people with depression
spend a lot of time using social media.

Because users are addicted to social media. Most of the time is spent watching videos and chatting
constantly on Messenger. Especially the lack of outdoor physical activity. Eventually, the user
becomes physically weak. It also speaks to their weak immune systems and lack of stamina to perform
any kind of physical work in everyday life. Social media can be addictive and, if overused, can lead to
feelings of loneliness or isolation. In fact, social media is an excellent vehicle for spreading
information, sharing personal experiences, motivating people, and connecting with distant family
members. As long as everyone can use social media rationally and correctly, the harm of social media
can be reduced.
Understanding your situation and the potential benefit of changing your behaviour is the first step in
reducing these dangers.
