corner of Manga and Bayabas streets to Lanzones Street. What is the
shortest path if Manga and Bayabas streets are perpendicular? How
long is the path if BD is 18 meters and AD is 32 meters?
The shortest path from the point C to AB is the line segment from C
perpendicular to AB. This is the altitude CD of ∆ BDC ∆ CDA .

Geometric mean
In any right triangle, if the altitude to the hypotenuse is drawn, then
the length of the altitude is the geometric mean between the
segments of the hypotenuse; and
each leg is the geometric mean between the hypotenuse and
the segment of the hypotenuse that is adjacent to the leg.
