basılı (kağıt) ve elektronik formatta arşivleme ve aşağıda verilen koşullarla kullanıma açma
iznini Hacettepe Üniversitesine verdiğimi bildiririm. Bu izinle Üniversiteye verilen kullanım
hakları dışındaki tüm fikri mülkiyet haklarım bende kalacak, tezimin tamamının ya da bir

(1) Madde 6. 1. Lisansüstü tezle ilgili patent başvurusu yapılması veya patent alma sürecinin devam etmesi
durumunda, tez danışmanının önerisi ve enstitü anabilim dalının uygun görüşü üzerine enstitü veya
fakülte yönetim kurulu iki yıl süre ile tezin erişime açılmasının ertelenmesine karar verebilir.
(2) Madde 6. 2. Yeni teknik, materyal ve metotların kullanıldığı, henüz makaleye dönüşmemiş veya patent gibi
yöntemlerle korunmamış ve internetten paylaşılması durumunda 3. şahıslara veya kurumlara haksız kazanç
imkanı oluşturabilecek bilgi ve bulguları içeren tezler hakkında tez danışmanının önerisi ve enstitü anabilim
dalının uygun görüşü üzerine enstitü veya fakülte yönetim kurulunun gerekçeli kararı ile altı ayı aşmamak
üzere tezin erişime açılması engellenebilir.
(3) Madde 7. 1. Ulusal çıkarları veya güvenliği ilgilendiren, emniyet, istihbarat, savunma ve güvenlik, sağlık vb.
konulara ilişkin lisansüstü tezlerle ilgili gizlilik kararı, tezin yapıldığı kurum tarafından verilir *. Kurum ve
kuruluşlarla yapılan işbirliği protokolü çerçevesinde hazırlanan lisansüstü tezlere ilişkin gizlilik kararı ise, ilgili
kurum ve kuruluşun önerisi ile enstitü veya fakültenin uygun görüşü üzerine üniversite yönetim kurulu
tarafından verilir. Gizlilik kararı verilen tezler Yükseköğretim Kuruluna bildirilir.
Madde 7.2. Gizlilik kararı verilen tezler gizlilik süresince enstitü veya fakülte tarafından gizlilik kuralları
çerçevesinde muhafaza edilir, gizlilik kararının kaldırılması halinde Tez Otomasyon Sistemine yüklenir

INTRODUCTION
CHAPTER 1
PAGE ORDER
1.1. PAGE USAGE: A4 (21 x 29,7 mm) size and minimum 80 g/m2 paper
should be used. Thesis must be printed one sided except if the thesis
is more than 500 pps you can use both sides.
1.2. MARGINS: Left margin must be 4cm wide, right marigin 2cm, and
both top and bottom margins must be 3cm wide.
1.5. FONT AND SIZE OF MANUSCRIPT: The font size must be 11-12pt,
standard fonts of Times New Roman or Arial are acceptable. Long
quotations, endnotes, and footnotes must be 9-11pt.
1.6. SPACING: The body text of the thesis must use 1.5 spacing, and the
Table of Contents, footnotes and endnotes, bibliography, and long
quotations are single spaced.
CHAPTER 2
HEADINGS
2.1 MAIN HEADINGS: All main headings are centered, starts on a fresh
page, all letters must be in capital letters, bold and 13-14pt font.
Notice: All headings must be enumarated, and there must be 2 lines (24 pt) of
empty space before each heading and 1.5 lines (18 pt) of empty space after
each heading.

3.1.2. Blank Page: There must be a blank page between the cover page and inner
cover page in order to preserve the thesis manuscript.
3.1.3. Inner Page: This consists of title of thesis, name and surname of student,
publication location and year, type of thesis, name of university, institute, department,
and programme, publication year and location, with 1.0 spacing; nothing bolded
(Appendix 2). Font and size must be the same with main text. The title of thesis must
all be in capital letters and other script must have only the first letter of each word in
capital letters.
3.1.5. Declaration Page: This declares the authencitiy of the thesis and sets the rules
of access to the thesis
3.1.7. Dedication Page and Aknowledgement: A dedication and a thanks page can
be inserted at student’s will.
3.1.8. Abstract Page: starts with “ABSTRACT” heading. Shall be no longer than 300
words, the first line should be a bibliographical reference (your surname name. Your

thesis title, kind of thesis, publication location, publication year), should list up to 10
keywords. The main objective of the thesis and findings must be briefly stated.
3.1.9. Turkish Abstract Page: Heading must be “Özet”. “Anahtar Sözcükler” must be
used instead of “Key Words”. This is optional.
3.1.10. Table Of Contents All chapter titles and headings must be listed in the table of
contents including the bibliography and appendices (if any).
3.1.14. Preface: Preface is optional. However, if the thesis has been prepared as part
of a project with an institution, the name of the project and institution must be indicated
in the here.
3.1.16. Bibliography: The lines after the name of author must be 1cm indented
3.1.17. Appendices: Each new appendix starts with a new fresh page and enumerated
as Appandix 1, Appendix 2,…. Headings must be centered.
3.1.19. Blank Page: A blank page must be inserted before the back cover.
The spine title must be legible from top to bottom, includes the thesis title, name of
author and approved year (Appendix 1). If title is too long to fit, title can be abridged
suitably. Spine title font cannot be bigger than cover page font. The thesis title must
begin at the top of the spine after leaving a 2cm space and must be left justified. The
publication year must be written at the bottom leaving another 2cm space.
Spelling rules of the foreign language are valid relating to “headings.” After the English
Abstract, an abstract in the foreign language (thesis’ original language) may be
inserted depending on the author’s preferance. For cover page preparation, foreign
translation of words are indicated in Appendix 2.
3.4. CITATION
It is the department’s authority to determine the citation and bibliographical style on the
condition that the style fits internationally accepted systems of citation such as APA
and MLA.
On matters not included in these regulations, the Graduate School Board of Directors’
decisions are binding.
3.6. VALIDATION
These regulations are valid after the 2018-2019 Spring Academic Term.
3.7. EXECUTION
CONCLUSION
This has meant to have been a guide to formating your thesis in accordance
with Hacettepe University regulations. If you follow the guide correctly, then you
should encounter a smoother thesis process. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAST
DATE IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR FOR THESIS DEFENSES IS JUNE 25TH,
SO YOU MUST SUBMIT A FINAL THESIS COPY AND FORMALLY
REQUEST A DEFENSE DATE AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE JUNE 25TH IF
YOU WISH NOT TO RE-REGISTER AS A STUDENT FOR THE FALL TERM.

For those students who have successfully passed their thesis defense, they
must submit their theses within one month.
STEP 2: Have your thesis sent to the Graduate School of Social Sciences’ to
have reviewed. Her contact details are as follows:

STEP 3: Make sure you complete and submit the additional documents:

Approval) page, signed by all jury members with the scanned copies,
copy these documents in PDF format onto two separate CDs.
STEP 4: Upload your thesis to the institutional archive. (see Open Access:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Follow the steps laid out at the address found at
http://www.sosyalbilimler.hacettepe.edu.tr/kurumsal_arsiv.pdf
STEP 5: Submit 2 original signed printed copies of your thesis to the Graduate
School of Social Sciences.
