The Erode sugar mill was set up with 1250 TCD capacity in 1984 in a
record time of 12 months. It achieved full capacity crushing during the
very first year of its commercial operation that enabled declaration of a
maiden dividend of 10% in that very first year, a record in the annals of
sugar industry. It was a trendsetter in mobilising surplus cane during its
infancy stage from neighbouring sugar mills and extending crushing
season to well above industry average. Its capacity was expanded to
2500 TCD in 1994 and to 3500 TCD in 2012. It commisioned a 19MW
Cogeneration plant in 2012.
Group observation:
Unloading:
The Sugar Cane Unloader is a fork type-grabbing crane used for
unloading sugar cane raw materials with an easy flexibility and speed.
Shredder:
Cane Shredders prepares the cane before sugar extraction to increase
crush rates at the line.
Milling:
Cane is weighed using an electronic weigh bridge and unloaded into
cane carriers. It is then prepared for milling by knives and shredders.
Sugarcane juice is then extracted by pressing the prepared cane using
mills consisting of three rollers.
Juice sulphiter:
Juice Sulphitation is the process of purification of cane juice by
employing lime and sulphur dioxide gas.
Clarifier:
A clarifier is used to separate out the solids suspended in the cane juice.
Evaporation:
Diluted sugar juice becomes raw sugar and molasses in the evaporation
process after a specified amount of water is removed by evaporation.
Crystalaization:
The sugar syrup will change into solid form in 3 steps
1. Brownsugar
2. Powder sugar
3. Sugar
Packaging:
The packaging is done by both the machine and manpower.
Each bag 50 kg of sugar.
Storage:
After the packaging of sugar it is stored in the godown in the form of
ATTL.
