1. Scope/Objectives
This method statement provides the control sequence of construction & methodology that
will be used for trench area works including stage 3 raft activities.

6. Responsibilities/Supervision
6.1 Project Engineer:
 Shall be responsible to organize required machinery, material, man power to engineers
/ supervisor & foreman for effectively executing the work in a safe manner.
 To clarify any discrepancies in the work.
 Effective utilisation of resources.
6.2. Site Engineer / Foreman:
 To execute the work as per Project Engineer's instructions with the approved method
methodology & in a safe manner.
 Make sure that all the works are completed prior to raising inspections.
 To execute the works as per approved method statements & shop drawings.
 Ensure To attend all the comments made by Consultant at the time of inspection.
 Ensure the workers with proper PPE, sufficient lighting, required material and
equipments for the execution of work.
6.3. QA / QC Engineer:
 To check the work is carried out as per the approved method statement & drawing.
 To ensure all approved materials are being used
 To raise the W.I.R. after co-ordination with Project Engineer.
6.4. Safety Personal:
 To advice Project Engineer/Site Engineer & foreman regarding the Safety precautions to be
taken and check for the safety implementations to execute the work.
 Ensure close monitoring of the activity.

7. Procedure/Method to be Employed
Purpose
To establish sequence of activity and methodology to construct block work using approved
material and accessories for temporary works.
7.1 EXCAVATION
 Excavation works for the structure shall be done as per the approved method
statement TS-ABM_CIV-MS-0199 - R1 & TS-ABM_CIV-MS-040 - R1& approved shop
drawing up to the required formation level.
 The angle of repose of 45 degree will be maintained.
 Formation level shall be well compacted and Field density test shall be conducted as
per the specification .REF-5120544/D2001-REV:00-629D
7.2 BLINDING
 Anti termite treatment TS-ABM-CIV-MS-0082 and Blinding concrete shall be done for
the specified area as per the approved method statement TS-ABM-CIV-MS-0049 -
R.01 Polythene sheet to be laid before pouring the blinding concrete.
7.3 SHORING BLOCK WORK
 Beam / Foundation for block work as per the approved shop drawing to be constructed
prior to start block work activities.
 Beam/Foundation reinforcement should be anchored through the blinding concrete for
rigid support.
 Concrete casting for the trench area should be done using concrete pump or
concrete bucket with aid of Tower Crane.
 Solid blocks will be used for Temporary Work, as per approved shop drawings.
 Blocks delivered to site will be carefully unloaded and handled so as to prevent
chipping and breaking.
 The blocks will be stacked on suitable supports to ensure that they are free from
contact with the ground.
 Block work will be carried out as shown in the
drawing to the line and level. Blocks will be

obtained from approved manufacturers complying with the requirements of Dubai
Municipality.
 Black washed sand and cement will be mixed in the specified ratio to prepare a
workable mortar
 Starting time sequence & the completion time of the construction of walls will be
according to the detailed construction program.
 Before covering over with block wall a clearance should be obtain for the built in
items/cleaning out debris from cavities and concealed space/sealing of penetration.
7.1.1. Types of Blocks used for temporary works
 Solid Block
7.1.2 Engineer's Approval
The Concrete Blocks supplied by the manufacturers should satisfy
 Size : As per specification
 Compressive Strength: As per specification
 Density: As per specification
 Water Absorption : As per specification
 Sulphate and chloride content.

7.1.3 Block Wall mortar mix proportion


The mortar for the Block work should be as follows
 Mix Proportion is 1:3 (Cement: Sand)
 Cement (as per approved material)
 Aggregate (sand for mortar) to be well graded & 100% passing through 1.18mm sieve.
 Mortar shall be mixed using mechanical mixers and the mixed mortar to be consumed
before setting time.
 The machine mortar mixing time shall not be less than 5 minutes, approximately 2
minutes of which shall be used for mixing the dry materials and not less than 3 minutes
for mixing with water. Mortar that has begun to set or which has been mixed for more
than 30 minutes shall be discarded.

7.1.4 Sampling & Testing
 The Solid blocks to be tested as per the specification
 The mortar used for block work shall be tested as per specification
 The sand used for mortar to be tested as per specification
7.2 Procedure
7.2.1 Setting out
 Setting out for the temporary block work shall be done as per the approved setting out
shop drawing.
 All block walls shall be accurately set out and the surface of the foundation or floor
shall be roughened to receive the first mortal bed. First block layer shall be laid on solid
beds of mortar of thickness specified in the approved drawing.
 A first layer of block shall be laid as per the set out and adjust for uniform joint width &
minimum cutting of masonry units.
 First layer of block work should be offered for inspection & Approved by the Consultant.
7.2.2 Ties/Reinforcement
 Block wall joint to RC wall/column should be reinforced with ties & reinforcement to be
provided every second layer of block work (if required).
 Stiffener columns /coping beams shall be constructed as per the approved shop
drawing.
 GI mesh-internal wall & SS mesh-external (SS-Ties as per approved material) are to
be introduced for every second layer of block work.
7.2.3 Block Work
 The Blocks shall be shifted to the location where the block work is to be carried out and
well cured with water frequently prior to 24hours before using.
 Block work shall be constructed in accordance with specification with true and regular
horizontal course and staggered vertical joints with walls and partition bonded to one
another at junction & angle.
 After obtaining layout approval the block work shall be carried out in layers maximum
up to five layers/day, a metal lath is provided for the first two courses & at every
alternate course thereafter and wall ties are provided at every second layer
alternating after the first layer of block course as per the approved shop drawing.

 All joints shall be consistent thickness (average 10mm),all horizontal joints shall be
properly levelled and vertical joints shall be properly lined and jambs and other
angles plumbed as the work proceeds as per the approved shop drawing.
 Joints are ensured to be uniform and shall not exceed 10mm thickness. Control joints
are provided in the form of RCC in walls to avoid block courses throughout a longer
span.
 Face of the wall shall be kept clean and free from mortar dropping and splashes.
7.4 TEMPORARY SUPPORTS TO SHORING BLOCK WALL
Further the existing shoring block wall on both sides shall be supported with Horizontal
supports using props with wooden flanks provided at top & intermediate leaving 1m from the
bottom.
7.5 WATER PROOFING WORK
 The waterproofing works will be done as per the approved method statement TS-ABM-
CIV-MS-0069.
 The stage -1 waterproofing will be done first at the bottom and side walls up to 1m
without disturbing the above support.
 Prior to start protective screed consultant inspection and approval will be taken.
 Protective screed will be laid as per the approved shop drawing.
 Stage -2 water proofing work starts from above 1m to 1.8m height on both side of block
wall with proper overlapping after removing the intermediate supports under proper
supervision.
 Removed Intermediate supports will be re support after completion of stage-2 water
proofing work back to back.
 Stage-3 water proofing work starts above from 1.8m to 2.60m height on both side of
wall with proper overlapping without disturbing the intermediate supports after removal
of top level supports under proper supervision.
 Removed top level supports will be re support after completion of stage-3 water
proofing work back to back.
7.6 TRENCH RAFT CONCRETING
 The trench raft concreting will be done as per the approved method statement TS-
ABM-CIV-MS-0008 - R.01

7.8 TRENCH AREA WALLS CONCRETING
 The trench area wall concreting will be done as per the approved method statement
TS-ABM-CIV-MS-0048 R.01
7.9 TRENCH SIDE WALL CONCRETING
 The trench side wall concreting will be done as per the approved method statement
TS-ABM-CIV-MS-0048 R.01
7.10 STAGE -4 WATER PROOFING FOR 500THK RAFT
 The waterproofing works will be done as per the approved method statement TS-ABM-
CIV-MS-0069.
7.11 500THK RAFT CASTING WORK
 The trench raft concreting will be done as per the approved method statement TS-
ABM-CIV-MS-0008 - R.01
7.2.4 Curing
 The newly built walls will be protected against drying and will be cured for a minimum
of 3 days.
 Trained and competent Foreman will supervise all works, and any works not done as
per specifications shall be redone immediately.
