OPERATING & INSTRUCTION MANUAL

FOR
CONTITHERM – NORTH AMERICAN TYPE GAS BURNERS

LIGHT UP & ADJUSTMENT

1. Make sure all fuel shut-off valves are closed. Open furnace door and dampers.

2. Start Blower and check direction of rotation. Care should be taken that the discharge or the suction of the blower is
closed during START-UP.

3. Open Burner air valves and zone control valves wide for purging the furnace.

4. When the furnace is purged of all combustible gases turndown the air control butterfly valve to 1/4 th or less open
(LOW FIRE POSITION), leaving air butterfly valves fully open.

5. Insert a torch through the pilot hole opening in the mounting plate and gradually open Limiting orifice valve upto 5
to 6 turns to light up the burner. Gas pressure to the air-gas ratio regulator should not exceed 2 psi.

Note: If burner does not light up within 15 to 20 seconds, close gas shut-off valve and purge the furnace before
trying a light up again.

6. After burner is ignited, gradually open zone air butterfly valve till the valve has reached high fire position (normally
60o open). Open Limiting orifice valve upto 8 turns at each burner to set gas and air ratios. This is the “HIGH FIRE”
setting.

Gradually close zone air butterfly valve to 1/4th or less open. Adjust spring in the AIR-GAS RATIO REGULATOR by
a screw driver to set flame at correct air and gas ratio. Turn spring adjusting plug clockwise for more gas or anti-
clockwise for less gas to obtain desired air/gas ratio.

Gradually increase air valve to high fire position and reset Limiting orifice valve, if required. Close cover of Limiting
orifice valve to avoid unnecessary tampering of setting. The air-fuel ratio of the burner is now set.

CAUTION

1. Never light-up burner from hot brick work.

2. Never light-up burner from another burner.

SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE

1. Shut-off gas to burner by closing gas shut-off valve.

2. Do not shut air. Radiated heat from the furnace can damage burner.

3. Open dampers to purge furnace.

4. Shut off air after the furnace has cooled down sufficiently to emit radiation.

INSTALLATION

1. For Burner block installation refer to enclosed sheet AM-10 and DF-M2.

2. For mounting dimensions, weight and other installation details, refer to the product bulletin.

3. For Limiting orifice valve flow capacity vs pressure drop and dimension refer to Bulletin.

4. For Air-gas ratio regulator capacity and dimensions, refer to Bulletin and for installation, light-up and adjustment –
instructions.

5. Gas shut off valve to be installed at the upstream of the regulator.

6. Diaphragm case of Air-Gas ratio regulator should be below the gas line and diaphragm should be horizontal.
