Gautam Saraswat Starting with our cover story is the one that fills us with immense pride. Aludecor's
Editor collaboration with the prestigious IIT Gandhinagar on FR and non-FR ACPs has been a
highly notable journey. The amalgamation of academia and industry expertise has paved

experienced a mass loss of
75% in the temperature
range of 350-500°C, with a
melting point observed
between 125-130°C.
In contrast, the thermal
decomposition of FR cores
occurred at a lower
temperature range of
325-335°C, with Magnesium
Hydroxide (Mg(OH)2)
converting into
Magnesium Oxide (MgO)
and releasing water
molecules. This continuous
release of water effectively
reduced the temperature,
resulting in only 12% mass
loss. Furthermore, the
thermal decomposition of
recycled PE led to mass loss
of nearly 30% at an onset
temperature of 460°C.
The bomb calorimeter
analysis indicated that the
heat of combustion for FR
core ACPs (5.5 MJ/kg) was
approximately one-fourth
that of non-FR core ACPs
(20.33 MJ/kg), signifying a
significantly lower energy
content in FR ACPs.
The average residual
mass after
decomposition was
approximately 13% for
non-FR core ACPs,
while FR core ACPs
exhibited a
significantly higher
residual mass of
around 52%. This
finding indicates that
FR ACPs performed
notably better under
fire conditions.
Cone calorimeter
experiments, conducted at
heat flux exposures of 50
kW/m2 and 75 kW/m2,
provided additional
insights. The peak HRR for
FR ACPs was approximately
65% lower compared to
non-FR ACPs, while the
time to ignition for FR ACPs
was nearly five times
longer.
