WEB CONTROL

Web Control in Kaspersky Endpoint Security manages users access to web resources to reduce
traffic and inappropriate use of work time. It offers several methods for managing access to websites:

Website Category: Restrict access to websites based on predefined categories such as Social
Networks or Streaming Media.

Use Case: An organization wants to increase productivity by limiting access to social media
platforms during working hours. They configure Web Control to block access to the Social Networks
category from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, ensuring employees stay focused on work tasks.

Data Type: Control access to specific types of content on websites, such as blocking images or
restricting downloads.

Use Case: A company needs to prevent employees from downloading files from untrusted websites
to mitigate the risk of malware infections. They configure Web Control to block downloads from
unknown websites while allowing downloads from trusted sources like cloud storage platforms or
official software repositories.

Individual Address: Block or allow access to specific websites by entering their URLs or using
masks.

Use Case: An organization wants to block access to gambling websites to comply with workplace
policies and prevent employees from engaging in online gambling activities during work hours. They
create a rule in Web Control to block access to all URLs containing "gambling" or known gambling
websites.

Web Control uses access rules to manage users' access to websites with advanced settings,
including:

• User Groups: Apply rules to specific user groups, such as restricting internet access for all
users except the IT department.
• Rule Schedule: Define time-based access restrictions, like allowing access to
entertainment websites only during lunch breaks.
• Rule Priorities: Set priorities for rules to ensure proper enforcement when multiple rules
apply to the same website.

For example, if a corporate portal is mistakenly categorized as a social network, an organization can
create two rules: one to block access to social networks and another to allow access to the corporate
portal. The rule allowing access to the corporate portal must have a higher priority than the rule
blocking social networks to ensure employees can access the necessary resources while still
maintaining security measures.
