1. BACKGROUND
Introduction
Construction Technology and Management is an important application of science, which plays
a major role in the social and economic development of modern society. In order to perform
this role effectively, construction engineers require a broad understanding of scientific
principles, knowledge of materials, applied knowledge of civil engineering and the capacity to
analyse and synthesise in order to arrive at solutions. This requires research, team working,
and leadership and business skills. And it has to be situated in a social, economic and
environmental context that reflects the reality within which the construction engineer and
manager finds him/herself.
In Ethiopia, Construction Technology and Management has great role to play in supporting
economic development and contribute towards the improvement of the living standard of the
people. This role and contribution input is at different geospatial scales, from the Federal to the
local, in both an urban and a rural context. As a country that is moving into a rapid phase of
growth, the contribution that construction technology and management can make, to ensure
that this growth is sustainable; is a particularly important one. It is therefore of vital
importance that construction technologists and managers are prepared, professionally, to met
this growth challenge and contribute to sustainable development.

support their role in industry.
7. Graduate Profiles
Graduate profiles are statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do
by the time of graduation. These relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that the students
acquire in their matriculation through the program.
6
Graduates will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills and
modern tools/software of construction related to: contract documents, codes, materials
testing, construction layout/surveying, best construction methods/practices, estimating,
scheduling, safety, design of construction systems (temporary structures, concrete,
foundations, formwork, basic electrical/mechanical systems), appropriate software (Excel,
AutoCAD, Primavera, Timberline).
Graduates will demonstrate an ability to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging
application of mathematics, science, engineering and technology related to construction
methods and design.

verbally) and function effectively in teams.
Graduates will understand the importance of lifelong learning, continuous improvement,
timeliness and a commitment to quality.
Graduates will understand professional, ethical and social responsibilities, and show a
respect for diversity and knowledge of contemporary professional, societal and global issues.
8. Program Profile
Admission Requirements
Admissions to all regular undergraduate programs are processed through the Ministry of
Education (MoE) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. This is currently true for all
public Higher Education Institutes across the whole nation. Admissions to the continuing
education program (CEP) are processed through the registrar office based on the criteria set by
respective University.
Mode of delivery
Despite of the capacity of respective universities and the nature of the course, all courses are
expected to be delivered on semester based parallel mode of delivery.
Method of teaching
In addition to the creativity and desecration of the instructor and nature of courses respective
teaching methods that enhance active learning –student cantered- should be adopted.
Moreover the recommended approaches are explained below in the course guide.
Grading system
The grading system is based on the national policy and the legislations of respective
university.
Graduation Requirements
Students must take and pass all the required courses to satisfy the requirements for graduation.
The total number of credit points required for graduation with the Degree of Bachelor of
Science in Construction Technology and Management is 300 ECTS, including the 30 ECTS
mandatory internship (public sector/consultancy/industry placement).
Degree Nomenclature
After successful completion of all the requirements a student graduating from the Construction
Technology and Management department will be entitled to earn a degree in:
