IMPORTANT
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance
with the following code: -
BLUE - NEUTRAL BROWN - LIVE
As the colours of the mains lead of this appliance
may not correspond with the coloured
markings identifying the terminals in your plug
- CONNECT AS FOLLOWS:-
This machine is double insulated, and therefore
an earth
wire is unnecessary.
The wire coloured BROWN must be connected
to the
terminal marked L, or coloured RED
The wire coloured BLUE must be connected
to the terminal
marked N, or coloured BLACK
If a 13 amp plug is used, fit a 3 amp fuse
For any other plug, protect with a 5 amp fuse
or fuse wire

NOTES
When servicing or changing mechanical parts
or lamp bulb the machine must be disconnected
from the supply by removing the plug from the
socket outlet.
Should it become necessary to replace the
lamp bulb at any time, the correct type of bulb
must be used, this being SBC type, 240 volts,
15 watt maximum.

FOOT CONTROL

By pressing lightly your machine is set in motion. Press soft rur sFowIY
The lighter pressure will bive the slower speed to the machine and the harder pressure the faster Press hard - m, fast

speed.

SEWLIGHT i

Sewlight is connected directly to the main supply lead of the machine when the motor plug is
inserted into the connector. T T
This results in the ligth acting as a warning when the machine is connected to the electricity
supply.
To change the bulb, remove same by slightly pushing it upward and turning it anti-clockwise.
Insert a new bulb by fitting the pins on the bulb into the slot, pushing upwards and turning it
clockwise.

1. Disconnect power supply plug from your machine before you leaving the machine
unattached and when changing, adjusting or caring parts.
2. Do not place anything on foot controller, otherwise, either the machine may start
inadvertently or foot controller may be overheated.

CHANGING THE NEEDLE

1. Raise needle to its highest point by turning balance wheel toward you.
2. Loosen needle clamp screw and remove the needle. A4,

REMOVING AND REPLACING THE BOBBIN WINDING THE BOBBIN THREAD

Raise thread take-up lever to its highest position and open 1. Hold the balance wheel with your left hand, and turn
the slide plate: stop motion screw toward you. (Fig. 1)

Remove bobbin case by holding the latch open. Then
release latch and turn bobbin case downward. The bobbin
will not drop out while holding the latch open.

TO REGULATE THREAD TENSIONS

Correct tensions are important for the good appearances of the stitches. If the tensions are not correct, the
results will be
imperfect stitching. Generally, the tensions should be adjusted by the upper thread tension regulator dial. However,
to test the
bobbin thread tension, hold bobbin case in your left hand and pull out a few inches of thread, if you feel a slight
pull and the
thread is supplied smoothly, it is usually unnecessary to adjust the bobbin thread tension.

THREADING THE NEEDLE

Raise thread take-up lever to its highest point by turning balance wheel toward you. Then raise
presser bar lifter and lead the thread through all points from ( to as follows:
1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.

2, Pass thread through top cover thread guides (C( & (f).
3. Lead thread between tension discs ((Q) from right to left while restraining thread from
L- drawing out freely from spool. Then pull it up through check spring ('(A)) and over tension
thread guard (33) from behind.
4. Guide thread into the hole on thread take-up lever ((4)), then down into face plate thread
guides ((2) and needle bar thread guide (( ).
5. Thread the needle (()) from left to right and draw about 15 cm or 5 inches of thread
through the eye of needle.

DRAWING UP THE BOBBIN THREAD

1. Hold needle thread with your left hand and turn balance wheel toward you until needle moves down and up again, then stop
balance wheel.
2. Pull needle thread to bring up bobbin thread in a loop.
3. Draw the threads under the presser foot away from you.

TO START SEWING
Make sure

2. Raise the thread take-up lever to its highest
position by turning balance wheel toward you.
3. Raise presser foot and position needle in your
material while holding the thread ends.

TO TURN CORNER
1. Stop sewing with needle in the fabric and raise
presser foot.
2. Pivot the fabric on needle.

By manually adjusting the stitch length, zigzag width and needle position while running the machine, a variety of ornamental
stitches are sewn.

AUTOMATIC PATTERN SEWING

Beautiful stitches are sewn automatically with automatic pattern cams. Pattern cams produce the stitches illustrated in the
following pages.
To insert a pattern cam into the machine follow the following instructions:
1. Open lid with your finger.
2. Turn zigzag width knob to "5 (CAM RELEASE)".
3. Insert pattern cam into machine. Turn pattern cam until the pin on the machine fits into the groove in the cam.
4. Close lid.
To remove pattern cam, open the lid, move zigzag width knob to "5 (CAM RELEASE)" and pull pattern cam out.
Note: When sewing automatic patterns, set zigzag width knob at "0".

1. Remove the regular presser foot and attach the buttonhole foot. TO CUT BUTTON OPENING

3. Mark with a pencil or chalk the position and exact length of the
buttonhole on the fabric.

4. Lower the needle carefully into the mark on the fabric indicating the beginning of buttonhole.
Lower the presser foot and commence sewing the left row of the buttonhole until it reaches the end of the marking. (1)
Stop the machine with needle on fabric at point A.
5. Lift the presser foot and using the needle as a pivot, turn the fabric end for end to bring the buttonhole to position (2).
6. Raise needle from fabric and drop the feed teeth by setting the drop feed knob at "EMBR".
7. Set the zigzag width control knob at "4" and sew three or four stitches to make bar-tack. (2)
8. Raise needle from fabric, also raise feed teeth by setting the drop feed knob at "NORM".
9. Now to sew the other row of the buttonhole, return the zigzag width control knob between "1" and "2" (to its original
settings) and commence to sew until your stitching reaches the position shown in figure (3).
10. To make the final bar-tack, again setting the drop feed knob at "EMBR" and sew the bar-tack. (4)
11. Return zigzag width to "0" and take two or three stitches to fasten bar threads and prevent ravelling.
12. Remove fabric from the machine and open the buttonhole with a buttonhole cutter or seam ripper.

SEWING IN ZIPPER TO SET MACHINE:

Zipper foot is designed to sew close to a L M R


raised edge. Also it is useful for making
corded seams and has many applications in
sewing hems. * Remove pattern cam
STEPS:
1. Replace presser foot with zipper foot.
2. Set the other controls as shown. Releas
3. Place the zipper and fabric under
needle as shown below.
(A) To sew the left side of the zipper,
set the zipper foot on the left side -11-4
of the needle.
(B) To sew the right side of the zipper,
bring the foot to the right side of -- NORI
the needle.

HEMMING TO SET MACHINE:

You can turn and stitch a narrow hem in a


single operation by using hemmer foot. L M R
STEPS:
1. Replace presser foot with hemmer foot.
2. Set the other controls as shown. Remove pattern cam-.
3. Crease a double 2.5 mm (1/8") fold for
about 2 inches along the edge of
material to be hemmed. (Fig. 1)

4. Place folded edge under foot at an
angle and position needle. Then lower
the hemmer foot and pull both thread
ends backward until a few stitches are
made.
6. Raise the foot and insert the folded
edge into the mouth of the foot with
the needle in the fabric.

BLIND STITCH HEM

Blind stitching can be quickly sewn with ST1CH

the middle of the toes of presser foot
and tighten thumb screw.

with the double fold line (C) against A

TO CLEAN FEED DOG

Lint and loose thread are liable to collect on the feed dog. Therefore, it is necessary that the feed dog be cleaned from time to time.

1. Loosen thumb screw and remove the presser foot.


2. Remove needle plate.
3. Clean lint and loose threads in the feed dog with a brush.
Also clean the reverse side of the feed dog using cloth.
4. After cleaning, reset the needle, needle plate and presser foot.

TO CLEAN SHUTTLE RACE

Unplug the machine from the power supply.

TO REMOVE SHUTTLE:
Raise needle to its highest position and remove bobbin case. Turn levers away
from shuttle and lift out retaining ring and shuttle, by grasping center pin.

Clean the reverse side of feed dog with a small brush. Remove lint and thread lever lever
from all parts of shuttle and wipe with a lightly oiled cloth.

TO REASSEMBLE:o
Hold shuttle by center pin and fit carefully back into shuttle race, forming perfect

TO OIL MACHINE

Apply a few drops of fine quality sewing machine oil to the points indicated by the arrows in the figures,

In constant use, oil two or three times a week.

In case the machine does not work smoothly due to standing idle for some time, apply a few drops of paraffin at the oiling points,

TO REGULATE BELT TENSION ON MOTOR

To adjust the belt tension, loosen the fixing screw about one turn with a screw driver.

This will allow the motor to move downward or upward.

Then firmly tighten the screw, and the belt should have the correct tension.

CAUTION: Do not tighten the belt too tightly.

When replacing motor belt,


please leave 5 mm (3/16")

UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS: CAUSES AND REMEDIES

THE UPPER THREAD BREAKS

CAUSE REMEDY
1. The needle is not threaded correctly. Thread the needle correctly.
2. The tension is too tight. Loosen it.
3. Something is wrong with the needle, Replace it.
4. The thread Used is too heavy for the needle. Replace it.
5. Thread take-up spring is broken. Replace it.
6. The needle is not set correctly. Set it correctly.
7. The needle plate, the hook, or the presser foot is damaged. Replace it.

THE LOWER THREAD BREAKS

1. When the lower thread is not wound correctly, it gets entangled. Wind it properly,
2. The lower thread is off the tension spring of the bobbin case. Put it in its proper position.

SKIPPED STITCHES

1. The needle is not attached to the needle bar correctly. Attach it properly.
2. The needle is either bent or blunt. Replace it.
3. A worn needle is used. Replace it.

THE NEEDLE BREAKS

1. The needle is bent. Replace it.


2. The needle is not attached properly. Attach it correctly.
3. The material is too thick or heavy. Use a needle of the correct size.
4. The material is being pulled by the operator. Do not pull on the cloth.
5. The needle is of inferior quality. Replace it with better needle.

STITCHING FORMS LOOPS

CAUSE REMEDY

1. The thread tension is not properly adjusted. See instructions for adjustment of upper and lower thread tensions.

3. Stitches are too small for the weight of the material. Adjust the stitch length.

IRREGULAR STITCHING

1. The upper and lower threads are of inferior quality. Use thread of best quality.
2. The thread is wound around the bobbin unevenly. Rewind it.

THE MACHINE DOES NOT WORK SMOOTHLY AND IS NOISY

1. The machine is in need of oil Apply oil as per instructions.


2. Dust and waste thread have collected in the shuttle mechanism. See instructions pertaining to cleaning the race and shuttle.
3. Oil of inferior quality is used and has coagulated. Clean thoroughly and oil again with proper sewing machine oil of
the best quality.
4. The tension on the belt is too tight. Loosen the belt tension,
