15. The activity of agriculture is highly sensitive to different environmental conditions. This is
because plants require optimum conditions for their best growth. At slight deviations from these
optimum conditions the yield decreases and at extreme variations, it is completely destroyed.
Therefore, it is very necessary for farmers to maintain the suitable conditions as much as
possible.
The different kinds of plants need different climatic conditions, different temperatures, different
photoperiods, etc. They also require specific soil texture, nutrition, soil quality, landscape,
availability of water, etc. All crops cannot grow under similar conditions in the environment.
Therefore, the cultivation practices are designed and performed keeping in mind the conditions
of the environment at a place at any time.

16. Compare manure and fertilizers

Manure Fertilizer

1. It provides organic material. It provides inorganic material.

2. It makes soil productive and fertile. It also makes soil productive and fertile for a short time.

3. It enriches the soil with nutrients. With a long or high amount of fertilizer makes the soil dry
and powdery.

4. It reduces the soil erosion. It increases the soil erosion.

bacteria. are present in the soil.

17. Indian variety of honey bee: Apis cerena indica and Italian variety of honey bee: Apis

mellifera, should be chosen for running an apiary.

Reasons are : They are accustomed with the climatic conditions and habitat of the country.

They are more resistant to the disease prevailing in the country.

Two factors on which the quality of honey depends:

1. Water content: The water content ranges from 13 to 25%. If honey has more than 17%
moisture, it can increase number of yeast spores, so it will ferment. It is the most important
characteristics which influences the quality of honey.

2. Sugar: Present in 95-99% in honey. Most of the sugar are formed as a result of the enzymes
added by the honeybee during ripening of the honey. Sugar content also favours the quality of
the honey.
