Answer one question from this section

1.(a) Relate the story of Joseph and Mary’s flight to Egypt and their return to Nazareth

(Mathew 2: 13-33)

 Now when they had departed,

 flee to Egypt;
 and stay there until I tell you to leave

 And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what spoken by the prophet
might be fulfilled.
 That he would be called a Nazarene.

 Jesus: means savior: Jesus came to save people from their sins.

redeem mankind.
 Son of David: means that he was born from David’s line or ancestry.
 Son of the most high: means son of God to represent His deity.

(a) (i) Anita, your friend wonders why God used Mary and Joseph to bring up
Jesus when there were many other people at that time. Give Anita three reasons
why God chose Mary and Joseph?

2. (a) Narrate the incident when Abraham was tested by God. (Genesis 22: 1-19)

 Sometime later God tested Abraham


 He said to him, Abraham!
 “ here I am”, he replied
 Then God said, “Take your son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of
Moriah.
 Sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.
 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey
 He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac.
 When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had
told him about.
 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw a place in the distance.
 He said to his servants, “stay here with the donkey while I and my boy go over there.
 We will worship and come back to you.
 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he
carried the fire and knife.
 As the two went on together Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?”
 “yes, my son” Abraham replied
 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my
son.
 And the two went together

 When they reached the place God told him about, Abraham built an altar there and
arranged the wood on it.
 He bound his son Isaac top and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
 Then he reached on his hand and took the knife to slay his
 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, Abraham, Abraham!
 “Here I am”, he replied.
 “do not do anything to him”
 “Now I know that you fear God because you have not with hold from me your son,
your only son”
 Abraham looked up and there, the thicket he saw a ram caught by his horns.

 He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.
 So Abraham called that place the Lord will provide.
 And this day it is said, “on the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.

(c) (i) The school manager for Tikondane secondary school found Getrude, a pupil
from her school at a hotel in the company of men. Getrude tried to hide but was
caught. When asked why she was at the hotel instead of her parents home,
Getrude replied “the devil tempted me” state two ways temptation comes to
people and one way to overcome them

3. (a) Relate the story of Jesus healing Simon’s Mother-in-law and what transpired after
that.

(Luke 4:38-40)

 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon


 Now Simon’s Mother-in-law was suffering from high fever
 And they asked Jesus to heal her
 And immediately she rose and served them
 Now when the sun was setting
 All those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to him
 And he laid hands to them
 And healed them

 A noble man went to a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return
 Calling ten of his servants
 He gave then ten minas, and said to them
 Engage in business until I come.
 But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,
 We do not want this man to reign on us,
 When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom
he had given the money to be called to him.
 That he might know what they gained by doing business
 The first came before him saying, Lord, your minah has made ten minahs more and
said to him well done, good servant
 Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall authority over ten cities.
 And the second came, saying, your minah has made five minahs
 And he said to him well done, and you are to be in charge over five cities

kingdom of God is at hand? What Christian advice would give your friend with

5. (a) Relate the parable of the wicked tenants (Luke 20:9-19).

 Jesus told the people this parable


 There was once a man who planted a vine yard, rented it out to tenants,
 And then left home for time
 When the time came to gather the grapes
 He sent a slave to the tenants to receive from them his share of the harvest
 The tenants beat the slave and sent him back without a thing
 So he sent another slave
 But the tenants beat him also, treated him shamefully and sent him back without a
thing
 Then he sent a third slave, the tenants wounded him and threw him out
 then the owner of the vine yard said , what shall I do
 I will send my dear son ,surely they will respect him ,
 When the tenants saw him , they said to one another
 This is the one owners son ,
 Let’s kill him and his property will ours
 They threw him out of the vine yard and killed him
 What then will the owner of the vine yard do to the tenants? Jesus asked
 He will come and kill those men and turn vine yard over to other tenants
 Jesus looked at them and asked what , then, does this scripture mean
 The stone that the builder rejected as worthless turned to be the most important of all
 Everyone who falls on that stone will be cut into pieces
 If that stone falls on someone that person will crushed into dust.

 God’s vine yard represent Israel


 The bad tenants who are the religious leaders beat and killed God’s messengers
 God will give the vine yard to the true believers in the church
 This would bring punishment to Israel and God would withdraw Israel
privileges

(c). (i) Mr. Peterson, a Christian, is falsely accused by his daughter in-law of being
involved in a murder case in which she claims she was a chief witness. Mr. Peterson
vows never to forgive his daughter. What Christian advice would you give him on his

6. (a) Relate the story of the transfiguration of Jesus. (Luke 9:28-36).

 Now about eight days after these sayings,

 And as he was praying, the appearance of the face was altered, and has clothing
become dazzling white.
 And behold, two men were taking with Him, Moses and Elijah,
 Who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which his was about to accomplish
at Jerusalem.
 Now Peter and those who were with were heavy with sleep.
 but when they become fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood
with him.
 And as the men were parting form Him, Peter said to Jesus,
 “Master, it is good that we are here.
 Let us make three tents, one for you one for Moses and one for Elijah, not knowing
what he said.
 As he was saying those things a cloud came and over shadowed them
 And they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
 And a voice came out of the cloud saying, “This is my son, my chosen one, and listen
to him”.
 And when the voice had spoken Jesus was found alone.
 And they kept silent and they told no one in those day anything of what they had seen.

(b) Explain why the disciples of Jesus Christ had difficulties in accepting Jesus as the

suffering messiah. State two points.

 They expected the messiah to be a powerful political leader.


 They expected Jesus to be king and could not accept the idea of his future suffering

7. (a) Narrate the rejection of Jesus at Nazareth. (Luke 4: 16-30)

 And he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he
went to the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read
 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.
 He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
 The spirit of the lord is upon me
 Because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor
 He has sent me to proclaim the good news to the poor
 He has sent to proclaim liberty to the captive and recovering of sight to the blind
 To set at liberty to those who are oppressed.
 To proclaim the lords favor
 And he rolled and gave it back to the attendant and sat down.
 And eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him
 And began to say to them “today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing
 And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from
his mouth
 And they said, “is this not josephs son?”
 And he said to them, “doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, physician, heal
yourself
 What you heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your home town as well.”
 And he said, “truly, I say to you no prophet is acceptable in his home town”
 But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows to Israel in the days Elijah, when the
heavens were shut up three years and six months
 And great famine came over all the land, “and Elijah was sent to none of them but
only Zarepheth, in the land Sidom
 To a woman who was a widow
 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of prophet Elisha
 And one of them was cleansed but only Naaman the Syrian
 When they heard this things all in the synagogue were filled with wrath

hill on which their town was built

8. (a) Give an account of what happened at Jesus’ last supper with his disciples?

(Luke 22: 14 – 23)

 When the hour came, He reclined at the table and the apostles with him.

suffer.
 For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
 And he took a cup and when he had given thanks, he said “Take this and divide
among yourselves”.
 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the
kingdom of God comes.
 And he took bread and when he broke it and gave it to them saying “This is my body,
which is given for you”.
 “Do this in remembrance of me”.
 And likewise, the cup of wine after they had drunk, this cup that is poured out for you
is the new covenant in my blood.
 But behold the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
 “For the son of man goes at it has been determined, but bw to that man by whom he is
betrayed.
 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to
do this.

 Look back in thankful remembrance of the cost of their redemption.

9. (a) Describe the problem which arose in the early church between the Hebrew
and the

Greek speaking Jewish widows. Acts 6:1-7

 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number.


 Complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows
were been neglected in the daily distribution.
 And the twelve were summoned the full number of the disciples and said.
 “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve
tables.”
 Therefore, brothers pick out from among you seven men of good reputation.
 Full of the holy spirit and of wisdom, who will appoint to this duty.
 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.
 And what they said please the whole gathering and they chos Stephen.
 A man full of faith and of the holy spirit and Philip and prochorus and Nicanor
and Simon and pamenas and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.
 They set before the apostles and they prayed and laid their heads on them.

(10). (a) Give an account of what was done on the Day of Atonement by the Jews
(Exclude the

offering details) (Leviticus 2:26 – 32).

 And the lord spoke to Moses.


 On that day do not eat anything at all
 Come together for worship and present a food offering to the Lord.
 Do not work on that day.
 Because it is the day for performing the ritual to take away the sin.
 Anyone who eats anything will not be considered one of Gods people.
 This regulation applies to all your descendants no matter where they live.

 Jesus answered, “if you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the

 And they kept silent and they told no one in those day anything of what they had seen.
