1. (20 points.) Find the product of 76 and 23 using the distributive property.
Verify your answer using the partial product, standard algorithm and an
array.

2. (20 points.) Find the difference between 289 and 767 using a chip model.
Verify your answer with the standard, adding up and compensation
algorithm.

3. (10 points.) Find the quotient of 85,354 and 230 with the standard
algorithm. In determining your answer, show the use of a multiple tree.
4. (20 points.) Understanding place value can be shown by converting
between number base systems. Convert 1245 in base 5 to a decimal
number. Then convert the decimal number 797 to a base 8 number.

5. (30 points, 6 each.) Solve each problem using a pictorial representation


and the arithmetic that follows. State your answer in a sentence.
a. A table and chair cost $168 together. The table costs $110 more than the
chair. What is the price of the table?

b. In a second grade class, there are 4 times as many boys as girls. If there
are 24 more boys than girls, how large is the class?

c. Dano saved twice as much as Alex. Fred saved $60 more than Alex. If they
saved $600 altogether, how much did Fred save?

d. Kimo baked 846 cookies for a home basketball game at her school. She
packed them into packets of 9. She sold the packets for $5 each. If she had
16 packets left, how much did she make?
