was an increase to 18 million hectares of genetically modified crops was grown by 2003. In that 4 years,
these represent to have grown by 8 million hectares. The increase between 1999 and 2003 was 8/18 x
100 = 44% in percentage increase in that span of 4 years.

2. Between 1997 and 1999, the land area increased linearly . The area of land increased by 10 million
hectares in 1997. Its total area increased to 20 million hectares in 1998 plus a 10 million hectares. After
that increase of 10 million hectares, the total land area is 30 million hectares in 1999. As a result,
according to the data during this time, the area grew by 10 million hectares per year.

3. Ten million hectares more are added to the industrial arsenal annually. As a result, the entire industrial
area—which covers 80 million hectares of land—will have grown by eight times by 2004 compared to
1996.

4. Exporting food can bring in more revenue for GM crops. But there could be problems with them. It's
possible that poor farmers in countries like the United States and Europe rely too much on large
corporations to supply their seeds. Local farmers may suffer from this, particularly the smaller ones. They
might have trouble affording the new seeds, or they might lose out to larger farms.

certain genetically modified crops are protected against weeds and pests, so farmers need to use fewer
pesticides and Less chemicals. Moreover, GMO crops are on average cheaper for consumers than
nonGMO food varieties.

The potential for DNA changes in some individuals to result in allergic reactions to specific foods is one
potential disadvantage of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Furthermore, if the same antibiotics
are used on farms, the modification of crops that are resistant to cetrain antibiotics may contribute to
the emergence of antibiotic resistance.

c. The increased yield profile of genetically modified crops is one of their benefits. However, compared to
conventional seeds, farmers may initially have to pay more for genetically modified seed.

d.Restoring soil health may be facilitated by utilizing a variety of nutrient sources. Manure and compost
contain organic matter and a variety of nutrients, but if these materials are the only ones used each year
to supply a crop's nitrogen needs, the soil may eventually become overly phosphorus-rich. using
nutrients from a lot of sources is ideal because it balances the needs of the plants and prevents
accumuluation of certain elemetns which can affect the health of the soil.

e. A great satisfaction to many of the farmers to feed their animals a natural diet and free of artificial
hormones and pesticides. Cultivating crops devoid of chemicals is their aim. Locally grown food offers
significant economic benefits to neighboring communities in addition to health benefits. By reducing the
distances that food must travel, they also assist in protecting the environment from pollution caused by
transportation.
