BOLO for Removed Offspring Notify with Zealous Effort

____________________________________________________________________________

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that more than 268,000 black children
were reported missing in the United States. According to the Department of Justice, racial and
gender differences in news coverage of missing children may translate into differential success
of those efforts by the public and law enforcement, or in differential success of those efforts. The
DOJ is also quoted in saying that “Intense, early media coverage ensures that people will be
looking for your child”.(end quote) So I ask, “Who is looking for the child that is not missing”?

AMBER Alerts are broadcast when law enforcement determines that a child has been abducted
and is in imminent danger. In addition, there must be enough information available about the
kidnapper or the child, such as appearance, vehicle description, etc., which could possibly lead
to the apprehension of a suspect and recovery of the child.Unfortunately, because of
desensitization, the overclassification of missing Black children as runaways, the adultification
of Black children, and the mislabeling of them as criminals, they do not meet the AMBER Alert
criteria. Therefore, Black children are not reported as missing and no efforts are put in place to
recover them. To bring awareness to this often overlooked and underreported population, the
B.R.O.N.Z.E. Alert was formed.

Black children go missing at high rates, but that isn’t reflected in news coverage of missing
person cases and rarely grab national headlines. The media plays a critical role in the way and
frequency in which information is dispersed into the community. I have modeled the BRONZE
Alert similar to that of the Amber Alert while adding additional networks to create a seamless
network of support nationwide to increase the chances that Black children will have a greater
chance of being recovered quickly and safely. I have partnered with Lesedi Shakur, National
Chairwoman of Sisters of the Underground, whom I have the pleasure of being a member of as
well. The members of this dynamic organization have devoted their lives to combatting the rising
epidemic of human trafficking, domestic violence, missing, neglected, and other marginalized
and disenfranchised members of our community. As a whole, we bring decades of experience to
this cause.

In an effort to actualize this concept, I ask that as we send notifications to you regarding children
whom we believe are at risk of imminent danger, just as do when you receive the Amber Alert,
that you give it the same time and attention via all avenues available to your station up to and
including news broadcast, social media platforms, onsite coverage, individual interviews, etc.

This press release also marks the official launch of the revamped webpage
www.BRONZEAlert.com. The site will feature up-to-date information and publications about
keeping children safe and preventing abductions, a list of current active alerts and their local
contacts, resources for making BRONZE programs work effectively and training programs.

There is power in forming community. The media is the entity that keeps the media informed to
get involved! Remember that the people we represent are actual human beings who laughed,
cried, smiled and did not expect to not see tomorrow or vanish off the face of the Earth or be
separated from their families. They deserve to be honored and respected. As an individual
journalist, you can also support the work we do through your personal blogs, podcasts, and
social media platforms.

To be clear, this is not about asking for more attention or being in “competition” with white
people. It is about, black children getting the same attention as white victims and having their
lives honored in the same ways.

We are excited about this launch of this endeavor to provide assistance to our children and look
forward to a positive and cooperative working relationship.

Thank You,

Dr. K’Arissa Grellner
