Objective: To identify and differentiate the 4 types of communication (verbal, nonverbal, written,

and visual)

Grade Level: 8

Subject: English

(1) Review: Briefly discuss the previous lesson on the importance of effective communication.

(2) Motivation: Show a video clip of a miscommunication scenario and ask the students to
identify the possible causes of miscommunication.

(3) Activity: Divide the class into four groups and assign each group a type of communication
(verbal, nonverbal, written, and visual). Each group will come up with a skit or presentation that
demonstrates their assigned type of communication. After the presentations, the class will
discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each type of communication.

(4) Analysis: Discuss with the class the different elements of each type of communication and
how they affect the message being conveyed.

(5) Abstraction: Ask the students to think of a scenario where each type of communication is
most effective.

(6) Application: Give the students a real-life problem related to the objective, such as a
miscommunication in the workplace, and ask them to identify the type of communication that
caused the problem and suggest ways to improve it.

(8) Assignment: Write a short essay on the importance of effective communication in the
workplace and how understanding the different types of communication can help improve
communication.

Interactive Activities:
1. Role-playing exercise where students act out different scenarios using different types of
communication.
2. Creating a visual aid, such as a poster or infographic, that demonstrates the strengths and
weaknesses of each type of communication.
3. Watching and analyzing a TED Talk or other public speaking engagement, identifying the
type(s) of communication used and how it was effective.
