B(P)R 50-
• Permit required for temporary buildings on
temporary basis i.e. for short time, constructed of
short lived materials (e.g. plaster board or fibre
building board, canvas) or as contractor shed
• BA may specify the period and may impose
conditions
• (see PNAP APP 50 , 95)

buildings or site boundary
• Kitchen, latrines with disposal of drainage
public drain/ sewer for workmen

• Single storey – storey height less than 3m


• Floor area less than 230 sq.m.
• Base less than 1.5m from ground
• No geotechnical concern
• Not on cantilevered structure or over
hoarding
• Within in & not readily accessible to public

Hoardings, Covered Walkways & Gantries

B(P)R 64,65
• Every building owner who intends to erect, alter,
or demolish any building; or carry out any
excavations, shall submit to the Building
Authority plans of such hoardings, covered
walkways and gantries
• The Building Authority may upon application
issue a permit and may specify in the permit the
period for which such hoardings, covered
walkways or gantries may exist, and such other
conditions as he may deem necessary

o Guidelines for applying Hoarding Permit


o Hoardings / covered walkways for demolition works should be provided in
accordance with the Code of Practice for Demolition of Buildings and Practice
Note for Authorized Persons, Registered Structure Engineers and Registered
Geotechnical Engineers (PNAP) APP-21 where typical details of a covered
walkway with catch platform are given.

• Permit from BA required (Hoarding Permit [HP])


• Lit at night
• Not to obstruct traffic signs
• No reversing of vehicles to/ from site, no queuing of
vehicles, loading & unloading within site
• Adequate width
• Utility pit cover not to be obstructed
• HP for demolition - prior notice to all utility
undertakers
• 500 mm clearance from the carriageway

Applications under regulation 64 of the Building (Planning) Regulations (B(P)R) for hoarding /
covered walkway permits
A minimum clear width of 1.1 m is required for hoardings / covered

walkways sited on a carriageway. As regards hoardings / covered


walkways on a footpath, the clear width should be related to the
existing pavement width as follows:-

Encroachment onto carriageway


– generally acceptable if traffic lane > 2.8m &
carriageway > 5.5m
– TIA (traffic impact assessment) will be required for
HP on carriageway of traffic sensitive road or on
other carriageway within 70m of a signalized
junction with a traffic-sensitive road not meeting
the min. width
