2.3 Combiners
2.3.1 Hybrid
The Hybrid Combiner distributes the RF signal power received by the signal
polarized antenna equally to two Outdoor Units (ODUs) in the 1+1 Protection
System.
2.3.2 Coupler
The Coupler distributes the RF signal power received by the signal polarized antenna
unequally to two Outdoor Units (ODUs) in the 1+1 Protection System.
The BR Combiner is a microwave-radio combiner with the low rate of loss, and also
a divider managing high number of channels. Up to three or four Outdoor Unites
(ODUs) can be mounted on one BR Combiner. Following show the BR Combiner D/
I Type. For detailed descriptions regarding iPASOLINK BR, refer to the iPASOLINK
series BR Combiner manual.

CAUTION
1. Do not use an inappropriate sized O-Ring:
Two types (small and large) of O-Rings are provided in a set of 18 to 42
GHz band Andrew/RFS Antenna. Do not use the small size O-Ring for
the installation of direct-mount type ODU or Hybrid/Coupler. If used, a
gap may be left between the antenna and ODU (or Hybrid/Coupler),
which may affects the RF interface causing transmitting/receiving level
down
Proper choices (small or large) of O-Rings are shown in the table below.
2. Do not put silicon grease on an O-Ring.
3. When mounting ODU directly onto 11/13/15 GHz Antenna, the regular
waveguide flanges are not available to connect with.

NOTES:
1. The details are provided in the installation manual attached to the
antenna. Mounting/Removing the antenna requires a qualified and
experienced personnel.
2. The antenna is set to V-polarization at the factory.
2. If you change the antenna to H polarization, loosen the four screws using the
hexagonal key wrench, and then rotate the Transition hub of feed, keeping
the antenna stand horizontal.

NOTE: If two types of gaskets are found, pick the larger one. (The smaller
one is not used for mounting an antenna.)
When the TX Span Attenuator (TX ATT) is required, the polarization of itself should
be adjusted as well.
1. To change the polarization from Vertical to Horizontal, loosen two screws, rotate
the antenna connection unit and put the TX ATT horizontally.

4. MOUNT COMBINER
Following are brief descriptions regarding the methods of mounting the Combiners,
such as Hybrid and Coupler. For the system using no Combiners, skip this section.
NOTES:
1. When using the Coupler and/or Hybrid to mount ODUs, the ODUs can
be set on the Coupler/Hybrid in shape of vertical polarization only. The
actual polarization is adjusted by the Transition Hub placed between
the Antenna and Coupler/Hybrid.

Left/Right Adjustment
Make sure that the antennas are set at right angle with the ground. If the antenna
angle is improperly adjusted, catching the ground reflections, the traffic will be
unstable.
Antenna, in the first place, should be checked if it is installed at right angle with the
ground.
GROUND
Antennas are occasionally settled with their faces slightly downward (at minus angle)
in the beginning, where the maximum receiving electric field will be the ground
reflection. If taking this result really as the maximum value, the antennas cannot be
adjusted properly.
GROUND
For the greater distance lines, the reflecting point gets into the antenna beam angle,
which creates the condition where the direct paths and the reflection paths may be
received at the same level. In this case, the sever fading occurs if the phase of
reflecting wave becomes 180 degree.

The reflecting wave levels can be lowered by tilting up the antenna, which is

ADJUSTING BOLT
NOTE: Since the cross-polarization signal changes sharply in the axial direction, its
XPD should be adjusted more carefully comparing to adjusting the co-
polarization signal.
Procedure 8-1
1. Pan the Antenna (OMT/ODU mounted) so that the RX LEVEL MON indicates
the maximum value at the ODU of the Main Master and Sub Master channels.
2. At opposing site, power off the ODU of the Sub Master channel (for both No.1
and No.2 Sub Master channels in 1+1 system).
3. In this conditions, check the RX LEVEL MON indication value for XPD at the
ODU of the Sub Master channel.
4. Confirm that the XPD value is more than 25 dB, if not, repeat Azimuth Angle,
Elevation Angle and XPD Adjustment.
Figure 8-11 Location of Adjusting Nuts and Bolts (RFS C-Mount Type Bracket)
The radiation levels of Microwave and Millimeter-wave that iPASOLINK series deal
with are very low, and no health hazard has been reported for them so far. However,
advanced countries that care much about health hazard have started regulating the
radiation levels. For EU countries, it is specified by EN50385. In order to follow the
regulation, operators should not work near by the parabolic antenna if its transmitter
is activating. Especially, the radiation level of a specific area (X and Y in the
illustration below) in front of antenna shows higher radiation level.
Power density level in front of the antenna turns high along the antenna beam. Ensure
not to allow yourself radiated by beams anytime.
