ANSI HIGH MASS IMPACT TEST

A 17.6 oz pointed projectile dropped through a 51.2” tube.

The frame and lens must remain intact and no part of the
frame can be detached.

ANSI HIGH VELOCITY IMPACT TEST

A frame with plano (nonRx) lens and side shields is mounted on a special head form, and its
shot with a.25 inch diameter steel ball fired at a speed of 150 fps. No part or fragments may
be ejected and absolutely no contact is permitted with the eye on the head form as a result of
the impact.

THE MARKING OF HIGH PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATION

• Z87 : Inside frame and temples of spectacles passes the ANSI basic impact
test
• Z87-2 : Inside frame and temples of spectacles, means the frames can be fitted
with a prescription lens.
• Z87+ : On a sunglasses or goggle lens, means the lens meets or exceeds the
ANSI High Velocity Impact standard.
• Z87S : On a spectacles/sunglass/goggle lens, means lens is a filter or shaded
lens (not clear).
• Z87V : On a spectacles/sunglass/goggle lens, means the lens is variable-tint
photochromic (light adjusting)
