The development of uts:

what is development?

Development is a multifaceted process that involves the restructuring and reorientation of the
entire economic and social system rather than being just an economic event.

Development is a process that creates growth, progress, positive change or the addition of physical,
economic, environmental, social and demographic components.

The purpose of development is to raise the standard of living for the populace while protecting the
environment's resources and creating or expanding job opportunities locally and regionally.
Development involves a change in the quality of something as well as the setting up of
circumstances that will allow that change to continue in the future.

Beginning in the second part of the 20th century, development became a key topic on the global
agenda. It became clear that economic progress did not always result in an improvement in the
standard of living for people everywhere; instead, emphasis needed to be placed on particular
policies that would direct resources and promote social and economic mobility for different tiers of
the population.

The history of uts:

On April 1, 2013, "University College of Technology Sarawak" was created (UCTS). In Sarawak, it is
the state government's first university. Phase I of the project was constructed by Hock Peng
Organisation with Naim Engineering as joint venture partner.

In 2015, the university became the first university in the world to receive platinum award for Green
Building Index (GBI).

The university building utilises technology like LED lighting with motion sensors, rainwater
collection for ponds, air conditioning, flushing toilets, and gardening to use 50% less energy than a
standard structure.

In September 2016, the Hock Peng Organization finished building "Unicity," a commercial district
with 80 shophouses, a hotel, a department store, and dormitories to serve the requirements of
college students. On October 8, 2016, UCTS hosted its first convocation, graduating 100 students. At
the event, UCTS named Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, the governor of Sarawak, as its first
chancellor.

Yayasan Sarawak, the statutory organisation under the government of Sarawak, will acquire full
ownership of the institution in January 2021. The high society publication Tatler Malaysia ranked
UCTS as one of the top seven campuses in Malaysia in May 2021. The Malaysian Ministry of Higher
