1.2 REFERENCES
B. AA - Aluminum Association
ASTM A 276 Specification for Stainless and Heat Resisting Steel Bars
and Shapes.
ASTM A 307 Specification for Carbon Steel Bolts and Studs, 60000
PSI Tensile Strength.
ASTM A 755M Specification for Steel Sheet, Metallic Coated by the Hot-
Dip Process and Prepainted by the Coil Coating Process
for Exterior Exposed Building Products.
ASTM B 117 Practice for operating salt spray (fog) Testing Apparatus
A. General: Provide metal wall panel assemblies that comply with performance
requirements specified as determined by testing manufacturers' standard
assemblies similar to those indicated for this Project, by a qualified testing and
inspecting agency.
B. Air Infiltration: Air leakage through assembly of not more than (0.3 L/s per sq.
m) of wall area when tested according to ASTM E 283 at a static-air-pressure
difference of (300 Pa).
H. Thermal Movements: Provide metal wall panel assemblies that allow for
thermal movements resulting from the following maximum change (range) in
ambient and surface temperatures by preventing buckling, opening of joints,
overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections,
and other detrimental effects. Base engineering calculation on surface
temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat
loss.
A. Materials and work shall conform to the latest edition of reference standards
listed below, specified herein and to all applicable codes and requirements of
local authorities having jurisdiction, whichever is more stringent.
B. Welding shall conform to requirements for shielded metal arc welding of the
Standard Code for Arc and Gas Welding of the American Welding Society.
C. Qualifications
D. Performance
2. Metal wall panel systems shall be designed for a minimum wind load of
152 kg/m2.
A. Color Change and Fade Resistance: A sample shall (in accordance with ASTM
E 838) withstand an EMMAQUA weathering test exposure (Exterior Equatorial
Mount with Mirrors and water spray) for 800,000 Langleys of ultraviolet radiation
without cracking, peeling, blistering or loss of adhesion. Maximum color change,
after removal of all exterior or surface deposits such as dirt, or chalk, shall not
exceed 5 NBS units.
C. Coating Systems Integrity Test: A sample shall withstand a salt-fog test for a
minimum of 1250 hours in accordance with ASTM B 117, including scribe
requirement in test. Immediately upon removal of specimen from test, coating
system shall show no signs of cracking, peeling, blistering or loss of adhesion.
1.7 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings
1. Submit Shop Drawings for each type of panel system specified herein.
B. Samples
4. external metal panels, including facade panels, where shown shall match
in finish and color.
D. Test Data: Submit certified laboratory test reports for the performance tests
specified in this Section.
A. Exercise proper care and protection in the delivery and handling of all work so
as not to injure the finished surfaces and take proper precautions to protect the
work from damage after it is in place.
B. Store off the ground, in a dry, protected ventilated space. Protect all materials
from rust, damage and detrimental conditions.
A. Protect work from weather, stains, soil, deterioration and damage of all kinds,
until completion of the project. Sprayed-on, strippable coating shall not be
used. Absorptive wrappings shall not be in contact with architectural metal.
After erection but before final cleaning and inspection, replace protective
coverings and take all other measures necessary to guard work from
construction abuse.
B. Damaged or Unsatisfactory Work: Remove from the project and replace with
new work at no additional cost to the Owner.
1.10 WARRANTY
1. Physical Properties
2. Mechanical Properties:
STC: 26 dB
4. Flammability
b. As per BS
c. As per DIN
2.2 ACCESSORIES
A. Fastening Devices
B. Support Systems
2. Fastening Devices
a. Concrete Anchors shall be die cast zinc alloy, Split Shield and
Wedge type machine bolt expansion shields of rated holding power
four times required working load, tested in accordance with ASTM
E 488.
b. Nuts and Bolts shall conform to ASTM A 307.
c. Fastening devices shall be galvanized as specified herein and shall
be of sizes required to support the work of this section.
C. Paint
1. Touchup paint for galvanized surfaces shall be epoxy zinc rich primer
"90-97 Tneme-Zinc".
D. Joinery System
1. Metal to Metal Sealant: Interior joints concealed in the finished work shall
be approved manufacturer's standard sealant, shown on shop drawings
submitted for approval.
E. Metal Trim: Provide metal trim and accessories to cap, enclose and finish metal
panel system.
2.4 FABRICATION
A. Provide materials which have been selected for their surface flatness,
smoothness and freedom from surface blemishes wherever exposed to view in
the finished unit. Exposed-to-view surfaces which exhibit pitting, seam marks,
roller marks, "oil canning", stains, discolorations or other imperfections on the
finished units will not be acceptable.
C. Fabricate work accurately to required shapes and sizes, free of warps, twists
and bends.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSPECTION
A. Make a thorough examination of all surfaces receiving the work of this section
and before starting the installation. Start of work shall imply acceptance of
conditions as satisfactory for the installation of the work of this section.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Verify measurements and dimensions at the job site and cooperate in the
coordination and scheduling of the work of this section with the work of related
trades (with particular attention given to the installation of items embedded in or
attached to other work and to required support items) so as not to delay job
progress.
B. Isolate galvanized metal from dissimilar metals, masonry, concrete, and wood
by coating with bituminous mastic paint specified herein.
3.3 INSTALLATION/ERECTION
A. Set work accurately in location, alignment and elevation, plumb, level and true,
measured from established lines and levels. Provide temporary bracing or
anchors in formwork for items which are to be built into concrete, masonry or
similar construction.
D. Installation Tolerances: Shim and align panel units within installed tolerance of
6.4 mm in 610 m on level/plumb/slope and location/line as indicated, and within
3.2 mm offset of adjoining faces and of alignment of matching profiles.
1. Provide folded corners at building exterior with 4.8 mm radius, trim less
bent panels.
A. Replace panels and other components of the work which have been damaged
or have deteriorated beyond successful repair by means of finish touchup or
similar minor repair procedures.
B. Cleaning: Remove protective coverings and strippable films (if any) at time in
project construction sequence which will afford greatest protection of work.
Clean finished surface as recommended by panel manufacturer and maintain in
a clean condition during construction.
