1 Overview
Cluster: Standalone
Software builds and modified components delivered in this delivery are explained in the
Change Note document.
2 Preparations
This chapter lists the required software and other information needed before this delivery
installation can be started.
The following software or system components are required in the NetAct environment before
the installation:
Windows Workstation
• The supported operating systems are Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.
Application may work for other Windows versions too, but they are not officially
supported.
• Installation files and other related content is delivered in a ZIP archive, which requires
compatible SW for decompression (e.g. WinZip® or 7-Zip).
• Viewing application help requires PDF browser. The help files are displayed by default
PDF browser.
• MSXML 3.0 SP2 component, or more recent MSXML 3.0 SP, is required for XML file
support. This is included at Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. If running another
Windows version, it can be either:
o installed from http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads or
o installed from media of previous Plan Editor deliveries. Running
msxml2sp2Setup.exe installs the SW. Last delivery where msxml2sp2Setup.exe
is included is OSS_CD_2977.
To avoid problems due to multiple versions of Plan Editor installed on the same system, it is
advised to uninstall previously installed versions of Plan Editor and clean up old configuration
and temporary files created by Plan Editor.
Especially make sure that the up to date backups of databases (*.mdb files), including user
data, have been taken.
5 SW Installation
5.1 Installation
This chapter explains how to uninstall previous version of Application and install this delivery
on Windows based workstation.
Before installation of new delivery on computer with previous version of Plan Editor installed,
uninstallation and clean up procedure is required. Uninstallation procedure should be run once
by user with administrative privileges but clean up – for each user account that was used to
work Plan Editor with on this workstation. Clean up is required if Plan Editor was installed inside
“Program Files” or “Program Files (x86)” folders.
1. Login to the workstation using account that was used to work with Plan Editor.
2. On drive, where operating system is installed, navigate to folder:
<disk_name>:\Users\<account_name>\AppData\Local
3. Look for directory named “VirtualStore”. If directory is not present, clean up procedure for
this user is finished.
4. In case “VirtualStore” folder exists, enter it and look for a folder structure reflecting
previous installation path (default is Program Files (x86)\Nokia\NetAct Plan Editor).
5. Once such folder structure is found, delete all files and folders in it, starting from Nokia
folder.
6. Repeat procedure for each required user account.
Installation
2. The Plan Editor start-up dialog appears on the screen. Version 19.8 is visible and licensing

screen, you should contact OSS Product Management as described earlier.

elements and versions as needed, and click Create button. For performance is recommended to

Configurator CM Operations Manager:

network elements (with version equal to selected for database), export target, RAML2.0
export format, internal values, and click Start button.

8 Troubleshooting
1. Sometimes after installation new version users can’t find list of adaptation delivered with
newest version of Plan Editor. It is caused be remained parts of previous version of Plan
Editor installed on given machine by given user. If before installation of new version old
version wasn’t uninstalled successfully user should perform action described in p. 5 as
follow: uninstall version wrongly installed, perform clean up after uninstallation, install again
new version of Plan Editor (in current case Plan Editor ver. 19.8). Below at screen shoot was
presented folder which should be checked and cleaned as it was described in p. 5, in part
“Clean up after uninstallation”.
Described above action should be executed by each user which will use new installed version
of Plan Editor on given machine.
2. Standard privileges granted to internal users in NOLS doesn’t allow download any software
package. With this privilege user have access to documentation (e.g. to hereby Instruction
Installation) only. It causes confusing during download software, which is mentioned above in
chapter 4 (SW update downloading instructions). Below is official answer from Support Portal
(NOLS is a part of Support Portal) which partially clarified what internal user should to do in
case of lack of access to installation package of Plan Editor:
To improve service to Nokia’s customers, the Support portal help desk mailbox is now used
only for external user support (customers, partners, vendors).
Questions or issues related to employee accounts should be raised to IT via the standard
channels, namely via the IT Service Portal to raise a SNOW incident or Service Request (Search
for ‘Support portal’).
Escalations for customer issues can be raised via the appropriate CaPM/eService Manager
and escalations for employee tickets via your local IT Client Service Manager.
Please raise your concern In Snow tool using Nokia IT (https://nsnsi.service-now.com/).
It should help in case of any problem with downloading software from Support Portal (in fact
from NOLS).
3. In NOLS there isn’t direct access to software package of Plan Editor. Plan Editor isn’t
displayed as separate position in Software Catalog list. In order to find package of Plan Editor
user must use “Search software” edit field and type Plan Editor. Situation is presented below.
In search result will be displayed list of all officially released versions of Plan Editor.
