NOTES OF LESSON FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:
CHARACTER SKETCH
Mrs. Pumphrey [pronounced as pamfri] was a rich lady who a small pet dog had named Tricki. She
was foolishly indulgent and would pamper the dog by giving him chocolates, cakes, juice, eggs and wine.
She was ignorant and did not know that the dog needed exercise also.
She was grateful to Dr. Harriot for making Tricki healthy. She went to the extent of calling it a
'Triumph of Surgery'. So we can say that Mrs. Pumphrey was a rich, foolishly indulgent, ignorant,
anxious, silly, tender hearted, simple, easy to please, and a grateful person.
Mr. Herriot [pronounced as Herr-ee-uht] was a genius veterinary surgeon and above that, he was a
good human being and a very tactful person. He knows how to deal with people. He adjusts himself well
to the circumstances.
He was quick to analyze the factors responsible for lack of fitness and ill health of Pumphrey's
dog (Tricki).
Tricki was a dachshund [pronounced as daks-hund] dog who had been pampered to such an extent
that overfeeding, luxuries, and facilities became the cause of his illness. He became so fat that he could
