B. New lesson/ Lesson Proper

1. Motivation None, Teacher!
Today class, we will have a new lesson but before
that let me introduce to you, Mr. Tick Tack Clock

Hello Mr. Tick Tack Clock

Numbers

1. Why do you think we need a clock? 12

Very good

2. What time do you start your daily

activities like waking up, eating your
food, and brushing your teeth? To tell time

3. How does a clock help a person in doing

his activities? (varied answers of pupils)
6:00 am, 5:00am, 7:00am

2. Presentation/ Discussion To help us to be punctual

- Today, for our lesson Mr. Tick Tack Clock will help To help finish our work
us to tell time. So can you call Mr. Tick Tack Clock? To not waste time

- Once again, hello everyone I am Mr. Tick Tack

Clock. I am an analog clock. Children like you used
me to be able to tell time.
Mr. Tick Tack Clock
As an analog clock, I have two hands, the long hand,
and the short hand.
My long hand is the minute hand. Hello Mr. Tick Tack Clock
Again what is my longhand?
And my short hand is the hour hand. What does my
shorthand tell?
My minute hand moves faster than the hour hand
- The hands of the clock always move towards the
right. Minute hand

A complete turn of the hand is 60 minutes or 1 hour.

Shorthand is the hour hand
Again, how many minutes does it take for the long
hand to move around the clock?
The numbers in minutes are counted by 5 minutes.
When the minute hand passes 1 that is 5 minutes.
Let us count together 5, 10, 15,2….60 minutes
Very good, this time I want someone to volunteer to
demonstrate how to count minute time. Anyone who
wants to come in front? 60 minutes Teacher

Yes, student 2
Very good thank you for volunteering, you can now
take your seat.
What happened to the shorthand after the long-hand
move? 5, 10, 15,2….60 minutes
Yes, it is also moving slowly going to number 1.
- When the minute hand points at 12, then it is
exactly an hour. And when the minute hand
completes Me Teacher
another turn the
hour hand will
move to
number 2,
another
complete turn
the hour hand will move to number 3. Every
complete turn is equal to 60 minutes or 1 hour.
Is that clear?
It is also moving
Moving on.
In telling time, we can tell it by hour,
half-hour, and quarter-hour.
Here are some examples:

Yes, Teacher

4:00 8:00

4 o’clock 8 o’clock

We can read this as 4:00 or 4 o’clock, the other one

is read as 8:00 or 8 o’clock.

Keep in mind that when the minute hand is exactly

pointing at 12 and the hour hand is on a certain
number, that is exactly an hour. So we can read it as
1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock, and so on. Is that
clear?

When the minute hand is in 6, it is on the half-hour.

A half-hour has 30 minutes.

9:30 3:30 Clear Teacher

Another example, can you tell me what time it is?

Yes, student 3?

Correct!

Remember, in reading half an hour, the minute hand

is always pointed at 6, which is exactly 30 minutes.

Is there any question regarding half-hour?

Okay, let us continue.

A quarter-hour is 15 minutes.
Yes, Teacher

7:30 Teacher

The clock shows a quarter to 7:00 or 15 minutes

before 7:00. None

In telling time using the quarter hour, the hour hand

is not pointed at a certain number; it is between two
numbers, just like in our example here. It is between
numbers 6 and 7. We can read it as a quarter to
7:00. Clear? Can you now read and tell time?
Moving forward

When writing time, we begin with the hour and then

the minute; in between the hour and the minute is a
colon symbol (:). Let us take a look back at our
example earlier. We can tell time by the hour but
how can we write it? In this example, the hour hand
is at 4 so we write 4 then the colon symbol and the
minute hand is at 12 but instead of writing 60 we will
write 00 to indicate that it is exactly one hour or we
can write it as 4 o’clock. Second example, the hour
hand is pointed at 9 and the minute hand is at 6,
again we start with the hour which is 9 followed by Yes, Teacher
the colon symbol then the minute which is at 6 are
we going to write 6? Very good. It is 9:30. Is that
clear?
For the next few examples you are the one who will
write the exact time, so kindly get your toy clock,
paper, and pencil.
Let’s practice. I have here two dice, and this is what
you will do: after rolling the first dice, you will show
me the exact time using your paper clock, while on
the other dice, which is an analog clock, you will
write the time as shown on the clock. Is that clear?
Good job everyone!
Do you have any questions?
Are you sure?
Yes, Teacher

3. Fixing Skills Practice

This time we are going to play a game and our game

is still related to our lesson, so group yourselves into
three groups with three members in each group.

Direction: This is what you are going to do. I am

going to show you flashcards, showing time, and
each group must set the time in their paper clock.
The first group to show the correct time will be given
points. The group that will get the highest score will Yes, Teacher
be declared the winner.
None Teacher
Flashcards: 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 9;00, 10:00,
11:00, 12:00, 1:30, 4:30, 7:45, 8:45, 11:45. Yes, Teacher

Group 1

4. Application

The students will answer the following question

using the toy clock, they will show the precise time.
Group 2
Group 3

5. Generalization

clock?
