Video A : Introduction to answering questions with “Be present + noun”

Hello and welcome to your MES eLesson. I'm Virginia.

Today you’re going

to learn the what
and the how of
answering questions
with “Be present + noun.”

Let’s start with

“WHAT.” What are
these answers and statements used for?

They can be
used to talk about jobs.
For example,

“I’m a cab driver.”

Good. Now, let’s learn “HOW.” How do

you use these
answers and
statements?

First, know how

to conjugate
“Be present”.
If you want to talk about yourself, please repeat:
Yes, I am
-
-
Good! Native
speakers usually
use contractions
when speaking fluently.
Let’s practice the
contraction as well.
Please repeat:
Yes, I’m
-
-
If you want to talk about me,
Yes, you are
-
-
Once more, using the contraction:
Yes, you’re
-
-
If you want to talk about a man, for example, Frank,
Yes, he is
-
-
Once more, using the contraction:
Yes, he’s
-
-
If you want to talk about a woman, for example, Anna,
Yes, she is
-
-
Once more, using the contraction:
Yes, she’s
-
-
If you want to talk about you and me,
Yes, we are
-
-
Once more, using the contraction:
Yes, we’re
-
-
If you want to talk about other people,
Yes, they are
-
-
Once more, using the contraction:
Yes, they’re
-
-
We’ll use the
contractions during
the practice video.

It’s very important

to memorize this
conjugation fluently
before you start
practicing Video B.

Next, you need to

study your vocabulary
to know a variety of nouns, for example,

I’m:
a doctor.
an office worker.
the chef.

Remember, be sure
to pronounce the “an”
before nouns that begin
with vowel sounds. For example,
“I’m a doctor.”
“I’m an office worker.”

Keep in mind that

native speakers talk
about jobs in a friendly
way – your facial
expression is very
important.
Watch me –
for example,

“I’m a teacher.” “I’m an actor.”

“I’m the police officer.”
Let’s try saying those
three statements
together!
Please repeat after me:

“I’m a teacher.”
-
-
Great job! Remember
to think about your
facial expression!

Let’s do another.
Please repeat after me:

“I’m an actor.”
-
-
Good! Remember
to follow my intonation!

Let’s do one more!

Please repeat
after me:

“I’m the police officer.”

-
-
Excellent!

We’ll practice these examples and

more in Video B.
