THE EFFECT OF
SUNLIGHT ON
THE GROWTH
RATE OF
MONGGO SEEDS
PROBLEM
How does sunlight
affect the growth
rate of plants?
HYPOTHESIS
If monggo seeds are
exposed to more sunlight,
then their growth rate will
increase
Introduction
Sunlight is essential for plant growth as it fuels
photosynthesis, impacting growth and health. This
correlation is crucial for agriculture, influencing yields
and environmental balance. Optimizing sunlight
exposure in agriculture enhances productivity.
Understanding how plants use sunlight helps adjust
planting for optimal growth. Sunlight availability
shapes plant communities in natural ecosystems,
supporting biodiversity.
Monggo seeds are sprouted for culinary purposes, with
research focusing on optimizing germination conditions like
temperature, humidity, and sprouting duration to improve
the nutritional quality and sensory attributes of sprouted
beans. Sunlight is crucial for photosynthesis and regulating
plant growth factors. Farmers optimize sunlight exposure to
enhance crop yields. In natural ecosystems, sunlight
influences plant species diversity.
. Understanding sunlight's
importance fosters harmony between plants and their
environment.

Objectives

This research aims to:

growth of monggo seeds
-Examine if darkness affects the
growth of monggo seeds

VARIABLES

CONSTANT
-Amount & type of soil
-Amount of water/day
-Size of seedbox
-Amount of seeds
-Depth of seeds
SET-UPS
-Controlled
-Seedbox B (covered with
black cloth)
-Experimental
-Seedbox A (exposed to
sunlight)
MATERIALS

-Two identical seedboxes

-Humus (or any healthy soil)
-Monggo seeds
- Black Cloth
PROCEDURE
1.Prepare the materials
2.Do the viability test on
the seeds (in a cup of
water, pour the seeds.
The seeds that sink are
good quality, while the
seeds that float are not)
3.Label the seedboxes A & B
4.Put equal amounts of soil in the seedboxes
5.Put an equal amount of seeds in each
seedbox (25 for us) & make sure they have
the same distance between eachother
6.Put a black cloth over seedbox B but no
for seedbox A
7.Water each seedbox equally & regularly
(We used 2 cups of water/day at 8:30 AM)
8.Record the amount of sprouts in each
seedbox daily for 5 days
DATA GATHERED
GUIDE QUESTIONS

1.Which seedbox/container has a greater

number of sprouts after 10 days?
-The seedbox/container which has a greater
number of sprouts after 10 days was seedbox A
2.Which seedbox/container has a smaller number of
sprouts after 10 days?
-The seedbox/container which has a smaller number of
sprouts after 10 days was seedbox B

3.What factor affects the difference in the number of

sprouts in seedbox A & seedbox B?
-The factor that affects the difference in the number of
sprouts in seedbox A & seedbox B was the amount of
sunlight
4.How would you interpret the gathered data based
on the table?
-Based on the table, seedbox A had more sprouts
than seedbox B becuase it was exposed to more
sunlight

5.In what other ways can you present your data?

-We can present the data by using graphs such as
bar graphs, line graphs, etc.
BAR GRAPH
LINE GRAPH
6.Do the results of the experiment support
your hypothesis? Explain your answer.
-Yes, becuase our results showed a
significant increase of sprouts in seedbox
A, while only a few in seedbox B
CONCLUSION
Seedbox A, that was exposed to sunlight, had
an abundance of sprouts, grew faster and are
healthier, meanwhile seedbox B, that was
covered with a black cloth, had miniscule
sprouts, grew slower, and are less healthy than
seedbox A.
