II Semester 2023

Prof. Dr. S. Laengle

Control 3
1 Instructions
1. Select from the file forms.png at https://docenciaweb.fen.uchile.cl/ your assigned
control form (A, B, C, or D) and download it.

2. Any learning material is allowed to answer the control. You will respond in a Word
document.

3. There, you will paste the images of possible models from other applications.

4. In the same document, you will also add the calculations by hand with a legible suitable
photo.

5. Export the single Word document to a .pdf file for correction. We will not correct a
Word file, only the .pdf one.

6. The control ends on November 16 at 3:00 pm. The file with a timestamp between
3:00 pm and 3:30 pm will receive a discount of 50% on the corresponding score. We will
not consider answers after 3:30 pm.

7. Your .pdf file must be uploaded as control3.pdf in your account of https://docenciaweb.

fen.uchile.cl/.

2 Problems
1. (40%) Consider the model of Fig. 1. The BPMN model can be downloaded from the
following link . Answer the following questions:
a) (20%) Determine the average processing time of the entire process without queue
times from simulation.
b) (20%) Determine the minimal quantity of resources.
. . .
c) (60%) Consider the following number of resources: nA = 13, nB = 10 and nC = 8.
With these quantities determine the cycle time (duration) of each task (1, 2, 4, 5,
6 and 7) and utilisation rates for each resource (A, B, and C) by using the simulator
BIMP (link here https://bimp.cs.ut.ee/). Copy and paste a screen picture from the
simulator with only these values.

2. (15%) The Table 1 resumes the results of n, W , and U of 5 model variants. Determine
the Pareto optima solutions for the organisation, the customer, and the employee that
represent each corresponding variable.

3. (30%) Model the following collaboration diagram with all possible details according the
following text.
The bicycle reservation system in the city begins when it receives a reservation request
from a customer. The system then requests location data and then evaluates possible
availabilities according to a decision rule. If the decision rule evaluates the request as
possible, then bicycles are automatically offered to the customer and the process stops
until one of the following events occurs: (1) if the customer does accept any offer, then
the reservation sub-process is executed and the process ends; (2) if the customer does not
accept the offer, then the system offers again; (3) the above events must occur within 10
minutes, or the process ends.
If the decision rule evaluates the request as not possible, then it sends a reservation not

possible message and the process terminates.

4. (15%) Model all possible details according the following text.

a) The verify instrument task is performed automatically 10 times every day at 8am.
b) While the reservation sub-process is running, it may be interrupted by an error
message, in which case the process terminates. After completing the reservation
sub-process, an employee posts a reservation notice on the website.
