UQ. 6.2.

6 State the necessity of lateral ties in column

and its spacing? MSBTE -S-15. 4 Marks
Z Ans. :
Necessity of lateral ties
1. It prevent buckling of longitudinal bars
2. Itprevent longitudinal splitting of concrete
3. To avoid the long column effect by providing ties at
proper intervals
4. It resists diagonal tension

6.3 Load Analysis for a Column

of minimum
After considering all provision of
eccentricity specified in IS 456:2000, and also minimum
eccentricity should not exceed 0.05 times lateral dimension,
uen the columns can be designed by using following
Cxpression.
= 0.4f Ac+ 0.671, Asc
Where P, = Ultimate load carrying capacity
fa = characteristic compressive strength of
concrete (N/mm)
Aç = Area of concrete excluding steel
1, = Yield strength of reinforcement (N/mm')
Agc Area of longitudinal reinforcement for
column.
In this formula A and A, arc expressed in terms of
gross area (A).
A = A, + Age
