Section C
1.(a). Yes, it can be used to extinguish fire. This is because
water can extinguish the fire by removing one of the
conditions needed for combustion which is heat because the
water cools down the fire for combustion.
b. Keep away flammable substances from fire and always be
aware of the electrical appliances that are used in the kitchen
such as the oven and microwave.
c. Fuel and heat.
d. Pot Y will take a longer time to cook while Pot X will take a
shorter time to cook. Pot Y is at an higher altitude so the
temperature will be lower and the cooking time will increase
while Pot X is at an lower altitude so the temperature will be
higher and the cooking time will decrease.
2.(a). Filtration method can be used to separate an insoluble
solid from a mixture of solid and liquid.
b. Distillation
c. Both the liquid mixtures have different boiling points. Both
the process requires heat energy to separate the mixture or
impurities.
d. Tasteless or neutral taste.
e. No. This is because mixture of rice and sand are both not
the same solubles so it can’t be separated using this method.
f. The mixture has to be poured into a separating funnel.
Then, the water and oil will be separated using different
beakers. This is because floatation method can be used to
separate soluble and insoluble materials in water so the oil
will float on the water surface.
3.a. Place Y. This is because there is lesser oxygen in the
urban area and more carbon dioxide in the urban area. There
are also many pollutions in urban areas which makes urban
areas have bad quality of air composition.
b. Increment of carbon dioxide gas in air causes the air
temperature to rise and more water vapour evaporates into
the atmosphere which causes greenhouse gases effects.
c. We have to use bio-energy with carbon capture and
storage. We should also plant more plants and conduct
reforestation. We have to avoid illegal logging and
deforestation.
d. The temperature of the atmosphere will decrease. The
water vapour will not be there in the atmosphere and the
greenhouse effects caused by water vapour will decrease.
e. i. Oxygen is needed in respiration which involves plants
and animals. Oxygen is also needed fir humans and animals
to breathe and stay alive.
ii. Carbon dioxide is also needed for photosynthesis.
4.a.i. Egg is more dense than the tap water. This is because
the egg sinks in the water and does not float.
ii. Increase the density of the water so that the water is
denser than the egg.
iii. This is because the water is more dense than the egg so
the egg will be able to float as it is less dense.
b.i. Q= 0.3
R= 10.35
ii. R= 2
S= 3
c. Hot air balloons rise into the air because the density of the
air inside the balloon is less dense than the air outside the
balloon.
5.a. MV= The type of activities
RV= The heart rates per minute
b. When the intensity of the activities are increasing, the
heart rates per minute are also increasing.
c. 180. This is because he will be running double the time that
he ran which is 5 minutes.
d. The stress on the muscles will also increase. This is because
the intensity of the exercises are increasing.
e. Homeostasis maintains optimal conditions for enzyme
action throughout the body, as well as all cell functions.
