On Killing a Tree (Gieve Patel)

About the Poet:

 Gieve Patel (18 August 1940 – 3 November 2023) was an Indian poet, playwright,
painter, as well as a physician.
 He belonged to a group of writers who had subscribed themselves to the Green
Movement which was involved in an effort to protect the environment.
 His poems speak of deep concerns for nature and expose man's cruelty to it.
 His notable poems include:
I. How Do You Withstand (1966),
II. Body (1976),
III. Mirrored Mirroring (1991)
IV. On killing a tree.
 He also wrote three plays, titled Princes (1971), Savaksa (1982) and Mr. Behram (1987)

If I Were You (Douglas James Jardine)

 Douglas James Jardine, born on 13 October 1888, was a British colonial


administrator.
 He was educated at Westminster School and at Trinity College, Cambridge.
 He graduated BA Hons. in Classics in 1910.
 Soon after his graduation, he joined the colonial service and was posted as
assistant secretary to the Government of Cyprus from 1910–16.
 Notable works are:
I. The Handbook of Cyprus 1913 and 1919.
II. The Mad Mullah of Somaliland 1923.
III. If I were you (DRAMA).

William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850)

 William Wordsworth was an English Romantic poet


 He along with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English
literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads (1798).
 Wordsworth was Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death from pleurisy on 23 April 1850.
Kathmandu (Vikram Seth)

 Vikram Seth was born on 20 June 1952 in Calcutta.


 He is an Indian novelist and poet. He has written several novels and poetry books.
 Seth's collections of poetry such as Mappings and Beastly Tales are notable
contributions to the Indian English language poetry canon.
 He has won several awards such as Padma Shri, Sahitya Academy Award, Pravasi
Bharatiya Samman, WH Smith Literary Award and Crossword Book Award.
