 Objectives :
1- You will be able to describe the effect of an inductor has on DC and AC circuits by using measured
value.
2- You will be able to determine the total inductance of a circuit containing inductors in Series and
Parallel.

3- You will be able to measure the phase difference in RL circuit.


4- You will be able to know the relation between frequency and phase difference in RL circuit.

 Equipment required:
 F.A.C.E.T base unit.

 AC1 FUNDAMENTALS circuit board.

 Function Generator.

 Bread board.

 Oscilloscope.

 Digital multimeter.

 Connecting Wires.

 Inductor (5 mH), Resistor (100 Ω).

 Practical Exercises:

 Exercise #1 : Effect of inductor in DC and AC circuits :


1- Locate the INDUTANCE / INDUCTIVE REACTANCE CIRCUIT BLOCK on AC1
FUNDAMENTALS circuit board (Lab –Volt) training kit, as shown in figure (6.1).

 Effect of inductor in DC circuit :


2- Measure the internal resistance for an inductor L3 by using ohmmeter, as shown in figure (6.2).
 Note : write your measured value in table (6.1) .

3- Adjust positive DC power supply (8V) and complete the circuit as shown in figure (6.3).

4- Measure the DC current (I dc) and voltage across L3 (VL3dc) as shown in figure (6.3).
 Note: write your results in table (6.1).
5- Use your measured data in step (4) to calculate internal resistance of inductor (RL3).
 Note: write your results in table (6.1).

 Inductor in AC circuit :
6- Adjust function generator for (sine wave, 10V (P- P) and frequency 20KHZ).

7- Connect function generator to the circuit block, as shown in figure (6.4).

8- Measure the AC current (I ac) and voltage across L3 (VL3 ac), as shown in figure (6.4).
 Note : write your results in table (6.2).

9- Use your measured data in step (8) to calculate total inductance in the circuit (ZL3 ) .
 Note: write your results in table (6.2).

 Exercise #2 : Inductors in Series and Parallel :

 Inductors in Series :
1- Connect the circuit, as shown in figure (6.5).
2- Adjust function generator for (sine wave, 10V (P- P) & 20KHZ) and connect it to circuit block, as
shown in figure (6.5).
3- Connect (L1 & L2) to the circuit, as shown in figure (6.5).

4- Connect ammeter to measure (IacT ), and Connect Voltmeter to measure (VLT).


 Note : write your results in table (6.3).

 Exercise #3 : Phase Difference in RL Circuit:


1- Adjust function generator for (sine wave, 5V r.m.s & 1KHZ).

2- Connect the circuit on your bread board, as shown in figure (6.7).

3- Calibrate the oscilloscope for equal deflection on both axes.


4- Connect the oscilloscope, as shown in figure (6.7).

5- Measure (∆t ) between two waveforms shown on an oscilloscope , also measure the time period (T)
 Note: write your results in table (6.5).
