WORKSHOP
Unit 1

Class: Name:

introduction

Energy and living beings

All living beings require energy to carry out their daily activities and this energy is obtained from
the environment in which they live.

Food is what provides energy to living beings to fulfill all their vital functions and also gives them
what they need to develop and grow.
Connect each source of energy with the corresponding living being by means of a line.

What do you think would happen to a living being if it did not have what it needed to feed
itself?

Objective

To analyze the process of obtaining energy from living beings.

ACTIVITY 1

Autotrophic and heterotrophic organisms

Autotrophs

Autotrophic organisms obtain their energy from sunlight, water and other compounds such as
carbon dioxide, which is a gas present in the air and is produced as a result of the respiration of
living things and the decomposition of the remains of living things.

Most autotrophic organisms are green, among these organisms are plants, algae and some
bacteria.

Heterotrophs

Heterotrophs are those living beings that acquire their energy from the consumption of other
living beings, since they are incapable of producing their own food. Among this type of
organisms are animals, including humans.

Organisms that feed directly on plants, such as some insects and cows, are known as primary
consumers. If they feed on other animals, they are called secondary consumers.
In the space below, draw autotrophic and heterotrophic organisms from an aquatic ecosystem.

organisms in red.

ACTIVITY 2

Energy in ecosystems

The Sun is constantly sending out energy

in the form of light rays that travel
through space and reach the Earth's
surface.

AUTOTROPHOS Like Plants, algae and some

Oxigen
bacteria harness the energy of sunlight for
O2 their nutrition through a process called
photosynthesis. Plants make their own food
and build their entire bodies from simple
substances such as CO2 or carbon dioxide.

HETEROTROPHS obtain energy from other

Organic living things. They can be primary consumers
when they feed directly on plants (e.g. rabbits
Matter or crickets) and secondary consumers when
they feed on other animals (e.g. cougars,
CARBON snakes or eagles).
