SUBJECT: FULL ICE PROTECTION SYSTEM (FIPS) AC GENERATOR CONTROL

UNIT (GCU)

REASON: to replace GCU P/N 4G2420V00651 with new model P/N 4G2420V00851 and
modify wiring connections in order to improve the protections during possible voltage
and current transients generated in the Full Ice Protection System (FIPS).

NOTE

Implementation of this revision is not required for

helicopters that have successfully complied with the
Rev.A of this Bollettino Tecnico.

HELICOPTERS AFFECTED: all the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters equipped with

GCU P/N 4G2420V00651 and all the GCU P/N 4G2420V00651 in stock.

NOTE

Implementation of steps 6 thru 8 only is required for

helicopters that have already complied with the first
issue (dated 28/11/2013) of this Bollettino Tecnico.

B.T. 139-340 Rev. B

NOTE
Helicopters installing one of the Kits Partial Removal
Arrangement (P/N from 4G3000F00311 to
4G3000F00319) are also affected by this Bollettino
Tecnico.

COMPLIANCE: within twenty-five (25) flight hours or thirty (30) days from receipt of this
Bollettino Tecnico, whichever comes first.
Do not install GCU P/N 4G2420V00651 after receipt of this Bollettino Tecnico.
CAUTION
In case of failure to comply with the compliance time
requirements, the FIPS has to be de-activated as per
the applicable MMEL and the aircraft can be
operated within the allowances of the MMEL in non-
icing conditions.
Alternatively the Kit Partial Removal P/N from
4G3000F00311 to 4G3000F00319 has to be
implemented, (refer to AMP se DM n° 39-A-16-10-
00-…) modifying the compliance time as reported in
the CAUTION here below.
CAUTION
For aircraft equipped with a Partial Removal Kit P/N
from 4G3000F00311 to 4G3000F00319 the
compliance time is before next flight after re-
installation and re-activation of the FIPS.

DESCRIPTION: the Full Ice Protection System protection has been improved by
introducing a new GCU configuration. This new component ensures a faster reaction
capability against possible voltage and current transients generated in any part of
the system.

B.T. 139-340 Rev. B

New GCU configuration requires also a modification of the wiring connections on the
power distribution units (PDU), introduced with Rev.A.
This Bollettino Tecnico complements the inspections and improvements to the FIPS
already issued with dedicated BTs.

REQUIRED MANPOWER: it is estimated that in order to accomplish this Bollettino

Tecnico five (5) man-hours are necessary. Man-hours are based on hands-on time
and may vary with personnel and facilities available.

WARRANTY: to guarantee a continuous support to Customer operations within the

compliance terms mentioned in the paragraph above, the parts required to apply the
present Bollettino Tecnico (new or reconditioned units) will be supplied on a free of
charge basis by AgustaWestland upon Customer’s request.
Customer shall:
a. issue an Exchange Order to AgustaWestland Material Department for the
required part;
b. provide AgustaWestland Warranty Administration with the applicable WMM
(Warranty Claim/Maintenance Work Order/Malfunction Report) module duly
filled.
AgustaWestland Warranty Administration will evaluate the request and provide
detailed information for shipment of the core unit, including RMA (Return Material
Authorization).
If core component/s including required documentation as per Service Information
Letters (GEN-11-022 and GEN-11-023) will not be returned to AgustaWestland
within 15 days from RMA issuance, AgustaWestland reserves the right to charge the
customer with the entire value of the serviceable components provided in exchange.
