Table 1. The table above displays the eight students that spent time on Facebook, as well as their long-
term test results in their major.

x y xy x² y²
4 19 76 16 361
5 33 165 25 1089
0.0333 21 0.6993 1.1088 441
4 20 80 16 400
6 22 132 36 484
4 75 300 16 5625
1 21 21 1 441
4 19 76 16 361
Total: 28.0333 230 791 126.0011 9012

FORMULA:

n=8

r = 8 (791) - (28.0333) (230)

⟌ 8 (126.0011) - (28.0333) ² * ⟌ 8 (9012) - (230) ²

r = -119.659 ÷ 2056.007249

r = -0.058
The figure of r = -0.058 indicates that there is a negative strong association between the amount of
hours spent on Facebook and the students' Major Subject Long Test. This suggests that the more time
students spend on Facebook, the lower their major lengthy exam results will be.
