Title: Enhancing Sentence Construction Skills of High School Students: A

Comprehensive Study and Intervention Approach

Abstract:
This action research aims to investigate and improve the sentence construction skills of
high school students through a comprehensive study and intervention approach. The
study will focus on identifying the common challenges faced by students in constructing
effective sentences and implementing targeted interventions to enhance their skills. By
employing a combination of instructional strategies, practice activities, and formative
assessments, the research aims to provide valuable insights into effective pedagogical
approaches for developing sentence construction skills in high school students.

Introduction:
The ability to construct clear, concise, and grammatically correct sentences is crucial for
effective communication and academic success. However, many high school students
struggle with sentence construction, leading to difficulties in expressing their ideas
coherently and concisely. This action research aims to address this issue by
investigating the underlying causes of poor sentence construction skills and
implementing targeted interventions to enhance students' abilities in this area.

Research Questions:
1. What are the common challenges faced by high school students in sentence
construction?
2. How can targeted interventions improve the sentence construction skills of high
school students?
3. What instructional strategies and practice activities are most effective in enhancing
students' sentence construction skills?

Methodology:
1. Pre-assessment: Administer a diagnostic assessment to evaluate the sentence
construction skills of the participants and identify specific areas for improvement.
2. Data Collection: Collect data through observations, student work samples, and
surveys to gain insights into students' challenges and progress throughout the
intervention.
3. Intervention Design: Develop a comprehensive intervention plan, incorporating
various instructional strategies such as explicit instruction, modeling, guided practice,
and independent practice.
4. Implementation: Deliver the intervention over a designated period, providing students
with ample opportunities for practice, feedback, and reflection.
5. Formative Assessment: Administer regular formative assessments to monitor
students' progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
6. Post-assessment: Conduct a post-assessment to measure the improvement in
students' sentence construction skills following the intervention.

Expected Outcomes:
1. Identification of common challenges faced by high school students in sentence
construction.
2. Improved sentence construction skills among participants as evidenced by pre- and
post-assessment data.
3. Insights into effective instructional strategies and practice activities for enhancing
sentence construction skills.
4. Recommendations for integrating sentence construction instruction into the high
school curriculum.

Conclusion:
This action research aims to enhance the sentence construction skills of high school
students through a comprehensive study and intervention approach. By identifying the
challenges faced by students and implementing targeted interventions, the study seeks
to improve students' abilities to construct clear, concise, and grammatically correct
sentences. The findings of this research have the potential to inform and improve
instructional practices in high school English language classrooms, ultimately benefiting
students' overall communication and academic achievement.

Writing Skills
Intervention:
Grammar games and activities: Make grammar learning engaging and fun by
incorporating games and activities into your lessons. Use interactive online resources,
board games, or classroom activities that encourage students to apply grammar rules in
a playful and interactive manner.
TITLE: SENTENCE SCRAMBLE: A Strategy in improving the grammar of Grade 7
students.
(Individual)
Sentence Scramble: Write sentences on index cards or strips of paper, and then
scramble the words. Students work individually or in teams to rearrange the words and
create grammatically correct sentences. The first team or student to correctly
unscramble the sentence wins.

TITLE: GRAMMAR PUZZLES: A Strategy in improving the grammar of Grade 7 students.

(Collaborative)
Grammar Puzzles: Create puzzle pieces with sentences or sentence fragments. Mix up
the pieces and distribute them to students. They must work together to assemble the
puzzle and create complete, grammatically correct sentences.

BENEFITS OF SENTENCE SCRAMBLE

 Teacher can use this as motivation for the students

 Improve students Grammar
 Improve students sentence Construction
 Active Assessment: Sentence scramble activities provide teachers with an
opportunity to assess students' understanding of grammar concepts and
sentence construction. Teachers can observe students' abilities to correct errors,
identify sentence components, and apply grammar rules.
 Differentiation: Scrambled sentence exercises can be adapted to different skill
levels, allowing teachers to differentiate instruction based on students' needs.
Teachers can create varying levels of difficulty by adjusting the complexity of
sentence structures or the vocabulary used.
 Engaging Learning Tool: Sentence scramble activities add variety and excitement
to language lessons. They serve as interactive and enjoyable learning tools that
can capture students' attention and increase their motivation to participate in
grammar exercises.
 Immediate Feedback: As students rearrange the scrambled sentences, teachers
can provide immediate feedback and clarification. This real-time feedback helps
students understand their mistakes, correct errors, and solidify their
understanding of grammar concepts. 5. Reinforcement of Grammar Concepts:
Scrambled sentence activities reinforce grammar concepts covered in lessons.
They provide additional practice opportunities for students to apply and
internalize the grammar rules and structures they have learned.

Approach"

REVISE:
Graphic Organizer: A Strategy in Improving Paragraph Writing Skills of Grade 7 Students.

Sentence Combining: Engage students in activities that involve combining simple

sentences to create more complex and varied sentence structures. Provide examples
and guided practice to help them understand how to use coordinating conjunctions (e.g.,
and, but, or), subordinating conjunctions (e.g., because, although, while), and relative
pronouns (e.g., who, that, which) to join sentences.

Remember to provide ample opportunities for practice, reinforcement, and feedback

throughout the intervention process. Regular assessment and targeted instruction based
on students' needs will help monitor their progress and guide further instruction.
