ELA

Learning Objective:
In the process of learning
about US symbols, students
will be able to write at least
8 common US symbols by
applying proper
capitalization.

Assignment
Description:
Students are asked to
correct the words. The
words will be written with a
mix of uppercase and
lowercase letters. It is the
students job to look at the
word and write it correctly.

Rationale:
This assessment aligns to
the objective because
students are utilizing the
content learned throughout
the read aloud and videos
incorporated in the lesson
to write the terms correctly.
Scoring Guide Description:
The scoring guide assesses students on how well they met the learning objective. To receive a ‘3’,
the highest score, the students need to correctly write 8 or more symbol names. To receive a ‘2’,
the students need to write 5-7 of the names correctly. To receive a ‘1’, the students need to write
1-4 of the names correctly. If they receive a ‘0’, they spelled them all incorrectly.

Differentiated Scoring Description:

The scoring guide will be used to assess a student who is on an IEP and has limited writing
abilities. This student will be asked to write two of the symbols names and highlight the
remaining names with the correct capitalization. To receive a 3, the highest score, this student
will be asked to write one of the terms correctly and highlight seven of the others correctly.
Social Studies
Learning Objective: After listening to the read aloud and watching the video, students will be
able to recognize common US symbols with 80% accuracy.

Assignment Description:
This assessment asks students to cut and paste the pictures to match the correct symbols to the
words. To begin the assessment, students will cut out all the pieces they will need to glue on the
worksheet and set them out in front of them. Then, the teacher candidate will read the words out
loud to the class and have them give a thumbs up once they have glued a picture to the words.

Rationale:
This assessment aligns to the objective because students are utilizing the content learned
throughout the read aloud and videos incorporated in the lesson.
Scoring Guide Description:
The scoring guide assesses students on how well they met the learning objective. If students
receive a ‘0’, they are not able to identify any of the symbols. If the students score a ‘1’, they
correctly identified 1-4 symbols. If the students score a ‘2’, they correctly identified 5-7 of the
symbols. If the students score a ‘3’, they correctly identified 8-10 of the symbols.

Differentiated Scoring Guide Description:

The scoring guide will be used to assess a student who is on an IEP and has limited mobility. He
will be asked to still identify symbols but he only needs to identify 5 or more to receive a 3. If the
student receives a ‘0’, they are not able to identify any of the symbols. If the student scores a ‘1’,
they correctly identified 1-2 symbols. If the student scores a ‘2’, they correctly identified 3-4 of
the symbols. If the student scores a ‘3’, they correctly identified 5-10 of the symbols.

Math
Learning Objective:
In the process of learning addition, students will be able to find the missing number in an
equation where the sum is 10 by correctly solving at least 5 problems independently and
correctly.

Assignment Description:
The students will be asked to solve 6 problems where they fill in the missing missing number in
the equation. This activity will be completed online using Seesaw, an online program. This
program is beneficial because it automatically grades and allows for students to see and fix
mistakes they made on the assessment.

Rationale:
This assignment aligns to the objective because within these addition tasks, there are embedded
questions which directly relate to the objective. For instance, ask students to identify the missing
addend to make the sum equal to 10. In the example above, the missing number would be 7 in
the equation 3 + 7 = 10.
Scoring Guide Description:
Students will be assessed on their abilities
to solve equations equaling 10. The max
amount of points will be 12. They will
receive 1 point per problem from drawing
the correct remaining counter and 1 point
per problem for writing the correct
number.

Differentiated Scoring
Description:
This scoring guide will be used
to assess a student who is on
an IEP and has limited writing
abilities. This student will have
to correctly solve 5 problems
on the worksheet but instead of
writing the number he will
stamp the correct number. This
student will be allowed to use
counters. They will receive 2
points for stamping the correct
number.
Science
Learning Objective:
In the process of learning about characteristics, students will be able to identify two ways young
animals resemble their parents based on characteristics.

Assignment Description:
This assignment will have students receive a card with either a baby or adult animal. The
students will then find their matching animal and fill out a worksheet. The worksheet asks them
to draw the baby and adult version of the animal. Lastly, they are asked to write down two traits
that they used to show how they knew the animals were related.

Rationale:
This assignment aligns to the objective because they are using their observation skills to identify
two characteristics that show how they identified the baby version of the animal to the adult
version.
Scoring Guide Description:
The scoring guide assesses students on all the components of the assignment. Students may earn
up to four points total. They can earn two points for drawing a baby and adult version of the
animal, respectively. They can earn another two points for writing two characteristics describing
how they knew the animals were related.

Differentiated Scoring Description:

The scoring guide will be used to assess a student who is on an IEP and has limited drawing and
writing abilities. He is only asked to draw one animal(this student has the autonomy to choose
either the adult version or baby version. Then he is asked to only write one word describing how
he knew they were related.
