Lesson 3 Metanoia Energy Audit Spreadsheet
Lesson 3 Metanoia Energy Audit Spreadsheet
Energy use intensity (EUI) measures how much electricity is consumed per m2 in a building. It is
used to compare the energy efficiencies of different buildings.
1. Using the information in the 'GFA data' tab and the consumption data in the 'Electricity' tab,
1 GFA Data
calculate the EUI of the different buildings on WAB's campus and comment on your findings.
2. Compare the energy efficiency of buildings at WAB to other buildings in Beijing.
**EUI = Total annual energy consumption (kWh) / Gross floor area (square feet)
Using the information in the 'Electricity' tab, investigate the seasonal variability in the electricity
2 consumption patterns of the school and comment on your findings. Electricity
**It would be a good idea to graph the seasonal variability to interpret this data.
Using the information in the 'Gas' tab, investigate the seasonal variability of the gas consumption
patterns of the school and comment on your findings. Gas
**It would be a good idea to graph the seasonal variability to interpret this data.
Assume the distance from your house to school is 5km. Calculate the amount of energy required to
cycle from home to school (joules).
1. Convert your answer to Calories. Calculate how many bananas you would need to eat to have
3 enough energy to cycle to school vs how much bacon (pig meat) you would need to eat for the
same journey.
2. Investigate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of bananas vs the
production of bacon and comment on your findings.
