1. A retailer buys some pens and rulers for $2 220. The prices of a pen and a ruler are $8 and $5
respectively. If the number of pens bought is 4 times the number of rulers bought, how many
rulers does the retailer buy? (4 marks)
2. There are only two kinds of admission tickets for a theme park: adult tickets and child tickets.
The prices of an adult ticket and a child ticket are $350 and $150 respectively. On a certain
day, the number of adult tickets sold is 3 times the number of child tickets sold and the sum of
money for the admission tickets sold is $144 000. Find the total number of admission tickets
sold that day. (4 marks)
3. The weights of a pack of tea leaves A and a pack of tea leaves B are 1.5 kg and 1.2 kg
respectively. Daniel buys some tea leaves A and tea leaves B. The number of packs of tea
leaves A bought is 2 times the number of packs of tea leaves B bought. If Daniel buys
25.2 kg of tea leaves, find the weight of tea leaves A bought. (4 marks)
4. The number of candies got by Mary is 5 times that got by Peter. If Mary gives 24 of her
candies to Peter, they will have the same number of candies. Find the total number of candies
got by Mary and Peter. (4 marks)

5. Jack and Kary share a sum of money. The amount received by Jack is 7 of that received
by Kary. If Kary gives $18 to Jack, they will have the same amount of money. Find the total
amount that Jack and Kary have. (4 marks)
6. The present age of James is 6 times that of Amy. 15 years later, the age of James will be
3 times that of Amy. Find the difference in the present ages of James and Amy. (4 marks)
7. There are 91 students in a competition consisting of 7 groups. Each group has the same
number of students. In each group, there are 5 more senior form students than junior form
students. Find the number of junior form students in the competition. (4 marks)
8. There are 72 chocolates in a box. It consists of milk chocolates and dark chocolates only. The
box has 3 layers and each layer has the same number of chocolates. In each layer, the number
of milk chocolates is 6 less than the number of dark chocolates. Find the number of dark
chocolates in the box. (4 marks)
9. There are 300 employees in a company consisting of 6 departments. Each department has the
same number of employees. In each department, the number of male employees is 1 less than
2 times the number of female employees. Find the number of male employees in the company.
