1: SEISMIC LOAD | NON-STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS

This section shows the calculation of seismic forces in accordance with SBC 301-18

Parameters
h = 11.50 m Average roof height of structure
z = 0.000 m Height in structure of point of attachment of component with respect to base (0 if on ground)
site = C Site classification (Table 11)

Spectral Acceleration
As per Civil Design Criteria the following are the acceleration parameters.
SS = 0.400 Spectral response acceleration parameter at short period
S1 = 0.100 Spectral response acceleration parameter at 1 sec period

Design Spectral Acceleration Parameters

As per Civil Design Criteria the following are the acceleration parameters.
Fa = 1.200 Site coefficient - Short Period
Fv = 1.700 Site coefficient - Long Period

Site Coefficient and Risk-targeted MCER spectral response acceleration parameters

SMS = F aS S
= 0.48 Spectral response acceleration at short period
SM1 = FvS1
= 0.17 Spectral response acceleration at 1 sec period
SDS = 2SMS/3
= 0.3200 Design spectral acceleration at short period
SD1 = 2SM1/3
= 0.1133 Design spectral acceleration at 1 sec period

Seismic Design Force for Non-Structural Components

a. Horizontal Seismic Force factor as per Clause 13.3.1.1.
aP = 1.50 Component amplification factor (Table 13.2)
RP = 2.50 Response modification factor (Table 13.2)
IP = 1.50 Importance factor (Clause 13.1.3)
FP =

= 0.1152 Wp Seismic force

Note:
FP = 1.6SDSIP Component weight "W p " is automatically
= 0.7680 Wp Seismic force upper limit considered in the software.

FP = 0.3SDSIP
= 0.1440 Wp Seismic force lower limit

0.3SDSIP FP 1.6SDSIP
> < Horizontal seismic force factor = 0.144
0.1440 0.1152 0.7680

b. Vertical Seismic Force factor as per Clause 13.3.1.5.

FPV = 0.2SDS
= 0.0640 Wp Vertical seismic force

c. Total seismic force factor

F = FP + FPV
= 0.2080 Wp Total seismic force

SUMMARY: Apply a total seismic force factor = 0.208
