What are the types of pumps and their uses.

Types of pumps.

The type of pump, as well as how it is selected depends primarily

on the purpose of its use, the use of pumps depends mainly on
the type of liquid to be pumped, the desired distance to move the
liquid, and the amount you need to obtain a certain time frame,
however

it is not easy to determine the type of pump according to its use

For a specific purpose only, pumps can be categorized into two
types that operate in very different ways and generally
summarize most pump design.
Types of pumps and their most important uses

-Pumps are classified into two types

dynamic pumps and positive displacement pumps

- dynamic pumps
There are several types of dynamic pumps that may be slightly
similar in their internal components, but differ in their power to
push water and liquids in general

*centrifugal pumps*
These types of pumps are the most widely used all over the
world, and this pump is powerful, efficient and fairly cheap. When
the pump is running, the pressure of the liquid increases from the
pump inlet to its outlet, as a change in pressure pushes the liquid
throughout the device.
This type of pump produces a force boost, the mechanical
energy is moved from the electric motor to the fluid through the
rotating blades, the fluid flow will enter into the center of the
blades and come out with their blades, the centrifugal force
enhances the centrifugal force from the fluid velocity and the
power can also be changed such as kinetic to force.
*vertical centrifugal pumps*

Vertical centrifugal pumps are also called hydraulic pumps, these

pumps use their own shaft, and contain hydraulic units for
handling fluids, and
their internal design is that they allow the quantity to fall into the
hole because the bearings are external to the hole, this pump
mode does not use any packing container to cover the shaft, but
In its place a throttle sleeve is used,
used to push fluids more viscous than water, and the common
use of these pumps is for washing, cleaning and water treatment
systems.
*horizontal centrifugal pumps*
These types of pumps include at least two other impellers, these
pumps are used in pumping services, and each stage of these
pumps is a separator pump,

all stages are in the same place and are installed on a similar
shaft, on a single horizontal shaft, eight stages can be installed
At least additional. Double suction single stage multistage pumps
can also be on the first vanes
*submersible pumps*

These pumps are also called rainwater and sewage pumps and
are similar to water dynamo Applications of these pumps mainly
include in construction, domestic, industrial, commercial, rural,
.municipal and rainwater recycling applications

Submersible pumps are suitable for diverting rainwater,

groundwater, sewage, black water, gray water, rainwater,
commercial waste, chemicals, bore water and foodstuffs, the
applications of these tubes mainly include various impellers such
as sealed, anti-block pumps vortex, multistage, single channel,
cut-off and mill pumps. For different applications, there is a wide
range accessible which includes high flow, low flow, low head, as
well as high head.
*fire hydrant systems*

Fire pump systems are also called hydrant boosters, fire pumps
and fire water pumps, which are water booster pumps, and they
are high power water pumps designed to enhance the fire
fighting ability of construction by increasing the power inside the
water hydrant because the electric current is insufficient.
Applications of this type include Of the pumps mainly irrigation
as well as water transfer.
*positive displacement pumps*

-Positive displacement pumps are categorized into different

types but some are discussed below such as diaphragm and
gear pumps, peristaltic and lobe pumps and piston pumps

*diaphragm pumps*
Diaphragm pumps are also known as AOD (air-operated
diaphragm) pumps, pneumatic pumps, and AODD pumps.
Applications of these pumps mainly include in continuous
applications such as general factories, industrial and mining,
AOD pumps are especially used in places where power sources
are not available, except in unstable and combustible areas.
These pumps are also used for chemical transportation, food
.processing, and underground coal mines

These pumps are response pumps and include two diaphragms

that are actuated by condensed air, the air section by means of
the transfer valve alternately directing air towards the diaphragm;
Each membrane contains a set of balls or check valves.
*gear pumps*
These pumps are a type of positive displacement rotary pump,
which means that they require a constant amount of fluid for
each cycle, these pumps transfer the liquid with machines that
enter into and out of the network to make non-stimulating
pumping, these pumps are capable of pumping with high power
and bypass in pumping high thickness liquids efficiently.

The gear pump does not have any valves to cause losses such
as friction as well as high thrust speeds, so this pump is
compatible with thicker fluids such as fuel and grease oils, these
pumps are not suitable for use with solids as well as harsh
*for peristaltic pumps*
Peristaltic pumps also called tube pumps, this is a kind of
positive displacement pumps, these pumps are mainly used for
processing chemical, food and water treatment industries, stable
material flow for metering and mixing, and can pump a variety of
liquids such as toothpaste and all kinds of chemicals.

*lobe pumps*
These pumps have various characteristics such as excellent high
efficiency, rust resistance, hygienic qualities, and reliability, and
they can handle thick liquids and solids without damaging them.

The action of these pumps can be related to gear pumps, apart

from the lobes that are not in contact with each other and these
pumps also have excellent pumping chambers compared to gear
pumps.
*piston pumps*

Piston pumps are one type of positive displacement pump where

the high power motor responds through the piston, these pumps
are frequently used in water irrigation, high pressure and reliable
work and delivery systems for conveying chocolate, pastry, paint
etc

Thus, this is all about the classification of pumps as centrifugal and

positive displacement. Used in various types of buildings to facilitate
the movement of liquid materials, pumps used in housing and
commerce can handle water. Fire pumps provide a rapid supply of
water to automatic sprinklers and firefighters, and booster pumps
provide clean water to upper floors in homes.
Factors affecting pump selection
Characteristics of the liquid that is used in the treatment
liquid viscosity 
temperature 
a certain attraction 
vapour pressure 
Existing solids and concentration 
Material sensitivity to shear 
Is it abrasive or non-abrasive 
Building materials used with fluids 
-The type of building materials that are suitable for the pumping
process, or the fluids to be used with the pump, if there are plans
to determine the proportions of the building blocks used in the
pump.
-The importance of the pump in the operation of the station
In some essential uses it is not possible to discontinue use, the
more expensive and heavy-duty pumps with special features can
be selected, if the pumps can be removed from service for
maintenance, less expensive options can be considered

-Pump inlet conditions

The available system net positive suction head (NPSH) is

calculated by knowing the pump inlet pressure and liquid vapor
pressure, it must be ensured that the NPSHA exceeds the
required pump net positive suction head (NPSH).
-pump environment

The environmental conditions in which the pump is to be used

vary. If the pump will be outdoors, construction or installation
considerations may need to be made in freezing temperatures.
If the environment is hazardous or contains explosive fumes or
dust, motor features must be required. Especially

-Availability of energy source

Hz / 22V / 032-111The most common power source in the US is
phases Special motors can 3Hz / 22V, 022-032single phase or
be selected for operation outside the US or with DC batteries
Compressed air can also be used Or pressurized hydraulic oil for
power

-Flow rate and pressure

The total volume and knowing the amount of time you have to
move the fluid will determine the flow rate. The differential
pressure of the pump can also be calculated by knowing
the size of the pipes (length and fittings), stationary lifts, system
equipment (filters, valves, etc.) and friction losses.
