1. Management was, is, and always will be the same thing: “the art of getting things done”.

Do you agree? Why or why not?

I agree that management was, is, and always will be the same thing. Since this is utilized by
organizations to operate their business productively and smoothly. It is also used by most
business organizations to aim their business mission, vision, goals, and objectives. Moreover,
management is defined as the process of planning, decision making, organizing, leading, and
controlling organizational activities effectively and efficiently, in order to achieve the goals of
the organization. Furthermore, it is “the art of getting things done.” As management is
considered an art of using creativity and imagination to come up with various ideas, suggestions,
strategies, and solutions to certain problems and situations. Thus, it makes innovations and
revolutions that result in new and improved products, services, and processes. Management
develops individuals (especially managers) on how to effectively apply knowledge and their
reliance on intuition in some decisions. Therefore, creativity and ingenuity are the two important
traits that a manager must possess.

2. In today’s environment, which is more important to the organization – efficiency or

effectiveness? Explain your choice.

Effective and efficient are two important keys in management. Some may prefer efficiency
and some chooses effectiveness. But a skillful balance between the two determines the success
or failure of a manager. Efficiency is the ability to maximize output with minimum input. Hence,
it seeks to use resources wisely and in a cost-effective way. Speed is one of the elements of
efficiency. As things need to be done quickly and as fast as possible to avoid wasting time and
effort. Also, to limit the wasted input which can be costly for a business. Efficiency is often
referred to as “doing things right”. While in effectiveness, it is often called “doing the right
thing”. Effectiveness aims to meet the desired goal regardless of the time and amount of input. It
is making the right decisions and successfully implementing them. This focuses more on the
output itself. As things are intended to be done to achieve a goal. The effort is present in
effectiveness. Back to the question, considering our situation today. In my opinion, both
effectiveness and efficiency bring significance to organizations. For example, COVID-19
vaccines, are developed in a short amount of time compared to others. Yet, we’ve seen the
effectiveness and result. It lessens the spread of the virus and brings protection to individuals.
For that reason, I believe both effectiveness and efficiency are important to an organization since
it provides a better and more favorable result for everyone.
