BEFORE COMMENCING WORK, YOU MUST READ THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS THROUGH
CAREFULLY AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THEM FULLY.

We congratulate you on your choice of optional accessories from BMW Motorrad that will enable you to
customise your motorcycle in accordance with your personal preferences.
Safety is invariably an essential prerequisite for extracting full benefit and enjoyment from new accessories.
Some work calls for special tools and possibly a thorough knowledge of motorcycle technology. If you are
in doubt consult a specialist workshop, preferably your authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.
Since we provide you with a multitude of accessories and optional equipment, we cannot cover all equip-
ment specifications in these installation instructions. Therefore we restrict ourselves to the basic version
of the corresponding model. The removal and installation of other possibly installed accessories is de-
scribed in the corresponding installation instructions. Consult your authorised BMW Motorrad dealer if you
no longer have access to the sets of instructions you need.
If you have questions concerning your motorcycle or any of the accessories from our range, your author-
ised BMW Motorrad dealer will gladly provide advice and assistance.
We at BMW Motorrad hope you will enjoy riding your BMW and that all your journeys will be pleasant and
safe.

Low-risk hazard. Non-avoidance can lead to Medium-risk hazard. Non-avoidance can lead to

High-risk hazard. Non-avoidance leads to fatal or Special notes and precautionary measures. Non
severe injury. -compliance can lead to damage to the vehicle
or accessory and, consequently, to voiding of the
warranty.

NOTICE Tightening torque

Specific instructions on how to operate, control,
adjust or look after items of equipment on the
motorcycle.
Screws, bolts and nuts are tightened in
accordance with the applicable DIN/ISO
standards. Tightening torques that devi-
ate from the standards are stated. Non-
compliance can result in damage to the vehicle or
accessories or can endanger the driver.

Brief instructions

General instructions

NOTICE
Once the retrofit kit has been installed by the workshop, these installation instructions must be handed over to the
customer.
Make sure that these installation instructions accompany the retrofit kit when it is passed on to a third party.

ATTENTION
Hard worktop
Damage to the surface of the helmet
Use the assembly ring or a clean, soft pad.

NOTICE
The installation is explained on the example of the
BMW Motorrad helmet Street X.
The installation in other helmets is similar.

Removing cheek pad
Open the visor.

Loosen cheek pads on right (1) and left (2) on hook and
loop fastener (arrows).

Loosen push-buttons (1) behind left cheek pad (2).

Pull out slide-in rail (3).
Remove cheek pad (2) working out the chin strap (4).

Loosen push-buttons (1) behind right cheek pad (2).

Pull out slide-in rail (3).
Remove cheek pad (2) working out the chin strap (4).

Loosening the head pads
Pull out slide-in rail (1) and push head pad (2) toward
the front.

Installation of rechargeable battery pack
If necessary (1), slide battery pack into enclosed
pouch (2) and close pouch.

Install battery pack (1) in recess intended for this pur-

pose, making sure that the cable outlet (arrow) points to
the bottom left.
Fasten battery pack (1) with enclosed double-sided ad-
hesive pad where required.

Installing the operating unit
To clean the helmet, be sure to follow the care
instructions in the operating instructions for the helmet.

NOTICE
Faces that will be in contact with the adhesive must be
dry, clean and free from dust and grease.

Clean bonding surfaces on helmet and operating unit.

Fasten the operating unit (1) on the helmet either

with double-sided adhesive pad (2) or with two Velcro
pads (3).
Affix adhesive pad (2) or hook and loop pads (3) to-
gether on the operating unit (1).

Attach operating unit (1) on helmet aligning on

edge (arrow).
Firmly press on operating unit (1).

NOTICE
In order to achieve secure adhesion, press the keyboard
firmly onto the outside of the helmet for two minutes.
While doing so, apply counter pressure to the inside of
the helmet.

Information on positioning operating panel on
helmet GS Pure

NOTICE
Two variants are available for securely fastening the oper-
ating panel on the helmet GS Pure.

Variant 1 (on side)

With this variant, Velcro pads must be used for fasten-
ing.
Install operating panel (1) below edge (arrow).

Variant 2 (on side, rear)

For this variant, check accessibility and operating com-
fort first, discuss with customer, if applicable.
Remove rubber (1).
Install operating panel (2) fully covering the re-
cess (arrow).
Secure optionally with double-sided adhesive tape or
Velcro pad.

Installing speaker
To adjust the wear comfort individually, optional speaker
pads (1) can be installed under the speakers.
If necessary, fasten speaker pads (1) in the re-
cesses (arrows) with hook and loop fastener.

Paste speaker (1) with long cable in on the right side

guiding the cable down.
Paste speaker (2) with short cable in on the left side
guiding the cable down.

Installing microphone
An optional microphone with cable or a boom micro-
phone can be installed.

NOTICE
The boom microphone is recommended for flip-up hel-
mets or jet helmets.

Fasten microphone with cable (1) on chin piece with

hook and loop fastener.
Guide cable (2) down and route in left helmet
edge (arrow).

Fasten boom microphone with hook and loop fastener in

a suitable position on the left in the helmet.
If necessary, install additional bracket for boom micro-
phone.

Connecting and routing cables
Connect plug connections for speakers (1), battery
pack (2) and microphone (3).

Route cable for microphone (1) in edge of helmet to-

ward the rear.
Route cable for operating facility (2) tightly around the
edge of the helmet and to the rear area of the helmet.
Form excess cable lengths into loops and stow in the
neck area (arrows), thereby utilizing existing recesses.
Make sure that cables are not kinked or crushed.

Securing head pad
Position head pad (2) and insert slide-in rail (1) while
making sure that all cables are stowed behind the head
pad (2).

Installing check pad
Work chin strap (4) into the left cheek pad (2).
Insert slide-in rail (3), re-positioning the cable (5) for the
operating unit where necessary.
Fasten push-buttons (1).

Work chin strap (4) into the right cheek pad (2).
Insert slide-in rail (3).
Fasten push-buttons (1).

Check correct fit of both cheek pads (1) and (2), correct
where required.
Fasten cheek pads on right (1) and left (2) on hook and
loop fasteners (arrows).

Function test of BMW Motorrad communica-
tion system
Check the Bluetooth functionality by pairing the helmet
to a second helmet or a mobile phone as described in
the operating instructions of the BMW Motorrad com-
munication system.
Connect the charger and fully charge the battery.
