1. Due to the spread of covid-19, education in the Philippines has changed dramatically.

From the
traditional face-to-face classes where students and teachers are both physically present inside the
classroom, it had shift to the different learning modalities such distance learning ( modular DL, On Dl,
television/radio-based instruction and blended learning.

Upon implementing these learning modalities, it is not only students who are affected but the
teachers as well. They had faced different challenges upon carrying out these learning modalities.

As an elementary teachers teaching and educates our students who are geographically remote
from you is not an easy job. You really need to sacrifice your time , money effort and energy, even your
health too. In the modular distance learning, teachers need to provide printed modules to the students,
for some, they would it is not so hard, you are not going to sit and print, but really it so challenging .
Before the printing the modules, teachers should check and edit first the modules. They should make
sure that it is aligned in the MELC. They also do study whether the activities in the modules can be
answered by their students. Moreover, after the printing the modules, teachers need to sort and staple
those before distributing it. Then, after that their students had answered the modules already. The
teacher will of course check those activities one by one. What saddens me as a teacher is when
parents/students return their modules without even answering it. They would write their name and
that’s it, although there are some who have complete answers. But, what bother’s me is, whether it was
really the students who are answering their modules or their parents. It worries me because I don’t
know whether my students are learning on it.

Aside from the modular DL, we have another option which is the online DL where teacher and
student who are physically separated use various technologies during the instruction. This is applicable
to the areas where internet connection is stable. Consider the place where I am teaching, online classes
is not suitable. Majority of the parents don’t have cellphones and don’t have money to afford them
weekly load allowance.

2. Elementary teachers faced and overcome the different challenges and struggles with the different
learning modalities in the New Normal with the help of parents. Teaching -learning process will not be
possible without the help and assistance of parents. Since, teachers cannot teach the students face-to-
face, the parent are the one s who became responsible for the learning of their children. In addition,
constant communication with them help the teachers to be updated on their students.

3. Instructional

What challenged the teachers when it comes to instructional is the printing of modules itself.
There are times where teachers short of the couponbonds used in printing and sometimes they
experience malfunctions of printer. Other than that, there are parents who are answering instead of
their children.

Technological

There are some teachers especially those who serve in the school in a long time who are not
computer literate. The internet connection in the school was not stable.
