For those of you who are

relatives in Sweden
You who live in Sweden and have family
who are citizens of a country outside the
EU/EEA and who want to move to you
Sweden, must meet certain
requirements. Here you can read more
about what applies. Your family
member's residence permit must be
granted before the move to Sweden.

Requirements for your family to

obtain a residence permit
Your family member can get a residence permit
in Sweden if

you are a Swedish citizen

you have a permanent residence
permit
you have a permanent right of
residence or a permanent residence
card
you have a temporary residence
permit as a refugee or alternatively
in need of protection and at the
same time are deemed to have well-
founded prospects of being granted
a residence permit for a longer
period of time
you have a time-limited residence
permit due to impediments to
enforcement or particularly or
excruciating circumstances, and are
deemed to have well-founded
prospects of being granted a
residence permit for a longer period
of time.

In addition, you who live in Sweden must fulfill

an income requirement (read more under the
heading Income requirements further down the
page).

If you have a work permit or residence permit

for studies in Sweden, different rules apply
when your family moves in with you.

Who counts as family?

Counts as a family member

children under 18 years of age.

You and your partner must both be over 18

years of age.

If you are a Swedish citizen or have a

permanent residence permit, the person you
plan to marry or cohabit with can also obtain a
residence permit to move to you in Sweden.
This also applies to you who have a temporary
residence permit as a refugee, alternatively in
need of protection, due to obstacles to
enforcement or particularly or painful
circumstances, but then you must be able to
show that you have a serious relationship that
was already established in your home country,
but that you did not have the opportunity to live
together in the home country.

In exceptional cases, a close relative who is not

or will become your husband, wife or common-
law partner can get a residence permit to live
with you in Sweden. Then you need a
permanent residence permit.

Supply requirements
You who live in Sweden must

be able to support yourself, other

people in the household and the
family members applying for a
residence permit
have a home of sufficient size and
standard for you to live in.

Your family should wait to submit the application

until you meet the requirements for support and
housing.

Your livelihood
You need to show that you have regular income
so that you can support yourself, other people in
the household and the family members who
apply for a residence permit. As income is
counted, for example

salary from work

unemployment compensation
sickness benefit
income-based retirement pension.

You can also meet the requirement for support if

you have a sufficiently large fortune that you,
the other people in the household and the family
members applying for a residence permit can
live on for at least two years.

Your income
How big your income must be in order for you to
meet the support requirement depends on how
big the family is and how high your housing
costs are. Your income after tax must be so
large that, after the rent is paid each month, you
have a certain amount left which should be
enough for, among other things, food, clothes,
hygiene, telephone and insurance for everyone
in the household.

For 2023, the amount you must keep after the

rent is paid is:

SEK 5,717 for a single adult

SEK 9,445 for cohabiting spouses or
cohabitants
SEK 3,055 for children 0–6 years
SEK 3,667 for children 7–10 years
SEK 4,279 for children 11–14 years
SEK 4,889 for children 15 years or
older.

Documents you can attach to show that you

meet the income requirements

Your home
You must have a home of sufficient size and
standard for you to live in. For two adults
without children, a home is large enough if it has
a kitchen or kitchenette and at least one room. If
children are to live in the home, there must be
more rooms. Two children can share a
bedroom. This means that the housing
requirement is met if a family of two adults and
two children has an apartment consisting of two
rooms and a kitchen. There are no requirements
on how big (number of square meters) a home
must be, but the rooms must be intended for
living.

It is fine to sublet the home, but the letting must

be approved by the landlord, tenant association
or rent board. Living with someone else or living
at home with your parents does not count as
having an acceptable home.

You must be able to use the home from the time

your family members come to Sweden.

du har en familjemedlem som

du är svensk medborgare,
medborgare i EU/EES eller
schweizisk medborgare, ni är
gifta/sambo och förhållandet är väl
etablerat (ni har till exempel bott
tillsammans en längre tid)
du har uppehållstillstånd med status
som flykting eller alternativt
skyddsbehövande, och din familj
ansöker inom tre månader efter att
du har beviljats uppehållstillstånd i
Sverige, ni inte har möjlighet att
återförenas i ett land utanför EU och
att ni har bott tillsammans precis
innan du flyttade till Sverige
du har kommit till Sverige som
kvotflykting och din familj ansöker
inom tre månader efter att du kom till
Sverige
det finns särskilda skäl, till exempel
att du inte har möjlighet att uppfylla
försörjningskravet på grund av
varaktigt nedsatt arbetsförmåga, till
exempel på grund av sjukdom eller
funktionsnedsättning.

Om du är svensk medborgare och

bosatt utanför Sverige
Om du är svensk medborgare, bor i annat land,
men planerar att flytta till Sverige tillsammans
med din familjemedlem som är medborgare i ett
land utanför EU/EES, måste du kunna visa att
du har för avsikt att flytta till Sverige inom en
snar framtid. När Migrationsverket prövar om
din familjemedlem kan få uppehållstillstånd görs
alltid en individuell bedömning om hur era
planer på att flytta till Sverige ser ut. Generellt
ska du kunna visa att du planerar att flytta till
Sverige inom några månader.

Fullmakt
Du kan ansöka åt din familjemedlem om du har
fullmakt. Din familjemedlem kan när som helst
under ansökningsprocessen ge dig fullmakt. För
att ge fullmakt till en annan person kan ni
använda blanketten Fullmakt.

Frågeformulär om familjerelation
och försörjningskrav
När din familjemedlem har lämnat in en
ansökan om uppehållstillstånd för att bo med
dig i Sverige får du ett mejl. I mejlet finns
instruktioner för inloggning till ett formulär du
ska besvara inom två veckor. I formuläret finns
frågor om er relation. Du som omfattas av
försörjningskravet kommer också att få visa att
du uppfyller det. Dina svar är viktiga för
Migrationsverkets bedömning av din
familjemedlems ansökan och det är viktigt att du
besvarar frågorna inom den tid du har blivit
ombedd att fylla i formuläret.

Krav för att kunna ansöka på

webben
För att du eller din familjemedlem ska kunna
ansöka på webben behöver du som är anhörig i
Sverige

ha fyllt 18 år. Även den som ansöker

om uppehållstillstånd ska ha fyllt 18
år
ha permanent uppehållstillstånd,
tidsbegränsat uppehållstillstånd som
flykting eller alternativt
skyddsbehövande eller vara svensk
eller nordisk medborgare om den
som ansöker är din make, maka,
registrerade partner eller sambo
ha permanent uppehållstillstånd eller
vara svensk eller nordisk
medborgare om du planerar att gifta
dig eller bli sambo med den som
ansöker om uppehållstillstånd
ha permanent uppehållstillstånd eller
vara finsk, norsk, dansk eller
isländsk medborgare om den som
ansöker är en annan nära anhörig
ha en giltig mejladress
kunna skanna eller fotografera och
bifoga en kopia av ditt pass eller
identitetskort när du besvarar ditt
frågeformulär.

När du har fått mejl om att fylla i

frågeformuläret
När din familj har skickat in sin ansökan, och du
har fått mejl från Migrationsverket ska du
besvara frågeformuläret. Genom att godkänna
användarvillkoren här nedan kommer du vidare
till inloggningssidan där du kan registrera dig
som användare. Du får därefter de
inloggningsuppgifter som du behöver för att fylla
i frågeformuläret. Observera att du inte ska
registrera dig som användare för att fylla i
formuläret innan du har fått ett mejl från
Migrationsverket.

Om dina svar inte har kommit in inom två veckor

från det att din familjemedlem skickade in sin
webbansökan, kan Migrationsverket avslå
ansökan.

Kontrollera ansökan
När din familjemedlem har lämnat in sin
ansökan får hen ett beteckningsnummer
(ärendenummer). Med detta nummer kan ni
kontrollera om ansökan har registrerats av
Migrationsverket eller om ett beslut har tagits.

ansöka på webben
Om din familjemedlem inte kan ansöka
på webben ska han eller hon ansöka
via en svensk ambassad eller
generalkonsulat. När ansökan har
kommit fram till Sverige går
Migrationsverket igenom den och
skickar sedan ett brev hem till din
folkbokföringsadress i Sverige. I brevet
står det att vi har tagit emot din
familjemedlems ansökan, och att vi vill
att du fyller i ett frågeformulär och
skickar in till oss. Du får information om
vilket frågeformulär du ska fylla i. Var
vänlig och fyll inte i något frågeformulär
innan du har fått instruktioner om vilket
formulär du ska fylla i.
